Cold snap = dead battery

With the cold weather my battery finally crapped out. Any suggestions on a new battery that can handle the cold? As well as a winch and 2000w system.

You should be using a deep cycle battery with your winch and other equipment you're running. I personnel use an Optima Yellow top. It's done me very well over the years. Its a fiberglas matt battery...which means you can mount the battery any way you wish, too include upside down...as there's no liquid acid inside the battery to leak out.

Another very good deep cycle battery is an Odyssey. I have a buddy that has 2 of them in his diesel truck that he swears by!! And talk about heavy, wow!! But thats all the extra lead plates that gives its deep cycle abilities. Now this one has to be mounted like a "normal" battery...because it still uses lead plate and liquid acid inside.

You really can't go wrong with either battery. I'm not saying these are the only two out there...it's just, these are the two I have personal knowledge of and can recommend!

I don't know anything about your rig...but with that much electrical drawl you are running...you might want to consider up-grading your electrical system...if you haven't already done so. The big "3", higher out-put alternator, etc.

I've run interstate batteries for a long time and haven't had a problem. Now I haven't had a winch but one of my trucks did have 4k running through it for the stereo (my hearing came back)

I have 4 years of being out in the desert where the temps range from 0 to 120+ on the thermometer and I haven't replaced my interstate yet. Still cranks every time.

Odyssey batts are Absorbed Glass Mat just like Optimas. No liquid inside. The Optimas use spiral plates, the Odyssey uses flat plates.
According to the mfr.(ODYSSEY battery - Design Advantages), flat plates mean more plates/power for a given footprint.
Odyssey can be mounted in any position except inverted.

I highly recommend the optima yellow. Can't speak for the odyssey but I have an optima in a big Chevy van. It travels all over the country in all types of weather with a big trailer including brakes. Lots of phones/laptops plugged in all the time. Handles it really well.

I too have used interstates. I use the MegaTron Plus ones. MTP-65's in the Jeeps. A MTP-24 in the CJ7 and 396 Chevelle, and MTP-27's in my Cummins. When the battery in the 4Runner craps out it will get one also.

Isn't Optima garbage these days? Was I misinformed, or maybe they are not that way anymore? Anyways, I just left my 4r outside for a few cold snaps, over a 3 week period without starting it. Replaced w/ an Interstate for $138 and running strong since fwiw.

They been good for me. I like their 3 year replacement warranty...no questions asked. I have 2 in my diesel truck. After storing my truck for two winters (without disconnecting or putting a charger on them) they went bad! I pulled out my paperwork and noticed they were 2 years and 10 months old. I took them back to Jegs...they pulled up my account and I walked out with 2 brand new batteries...No questions asked! I've now learned my lesson...and I remove my batteries and place them on a charger during the 6 month winter storage!!

The one in the 4Runner...I've had for almost 4 years with no problems at all!

Many of us around here run this and I love this Battery. I have left my Halo's on all night on the runner and the next morning no issues at all starting!

This is nothing but a re-branded Oddesy anyhow with a strong warranty!

Compare them all and make the best choice for you.

I prefer an Interstate for a lead acid/street battery, and an Optima for an AGM/wheeler.

I wanted to use a Die Hard plat, but there was no reversed terminal version from Die Hard. Extending the batt wires was out, due to lack of knowhow and fab technology on my part, so, an Odyssey it was for me.
