Hey all,
I've done my best to search for answers about this, but I just couldn't find anything that really nailed the symptoms I'm having.
When I've gone to start my '97 Limited for the first time the last few days and throw it in to reverse (after letting it warm up for a minute), something starts shuddering really badly. The RPMs also sit above 1k when I throw it back in to park. If I let it sit in gear for a minute or two, the RPMs get back down, and the shudder stops. The shifting isn't ideal when I start driving, but it's about back to normal for a 218k transmission.
I have been having some transmission issues (after a botched drain-refill routine, slipping, hesitating, etc), and I have a bad feeling it's the transmission on it's last legs. The shudder visibly moves my shifters (4wd shifter and my main drive shifter), and if I put my hand on one it feels like it's on an ocean.
I'm likely going to cave and take it to my mechanic, but I was just wondering if there are any simple things I can check first? Is my tranny overfilled?
Oh, it never ends. The reason I hesitate to go to the mechanic is because I *really* need to get my passenger LCA replaced (shot bushings that apparently cost the same amount in labor as to just replace the whole damn LCA...for over a year), and that's going to be a $300-500 job. Add a transmission, god knows what else, leaking valve cover gaskets, my tax bill (turns out I under reported by accident), and I'm not a happy camper.
