the extra ribs of the roof rack

I just wanted to mention that the extra "ribs" of the roof rack are removeable- that you may not need them in place after mounting the new basket or just prefer a cleaner look and rarely use the roof rack anyways. I have only 2 ribs in place other than the front and rear supports. Makes it easier to clean the roof and the occasional waxing...

they just loosen to unscrew and tilt one direction or the other until you can clear the frame.

I think I saw this on someone else's website-sorry I don't recall which one-it's not like me to have an original thought....

for some reason i have been getting a good bit of - comments on the tire carrier, the only thing that bothers me is it sticks out a little too far, but all that is getting fixed this week. the build up thread is over at yotatech

Christ man! I love the new look to your truck Roor! I've been checking it out since I got on this forum, and its come a long way! I especially like the tire carrier and the addition of the body lift. I myself am in the process of nabbin' a rack for my spare, and hopefully a body lift as well (when money ain't too big of an issue and I get the time to lift it up). Sorry for the digression, just had to show some appreciation for a killer ride...

But quick question for all, from the pics it looks like this rack will secure to round bars, I just want to make sure before I go ahead and order it. Any response is appreciated.

thanks for the props, as far as the mounting you'll be fine with round bars, the design makes it suitable for pretty much anything

FYI...I can see from the pictures that not all the racks are built the same way. All my bars are welded in place.

Anyone else who has one chime in, but I would say this thing is very rigid and very fairly priced. As I mentioned earlier, it is steel with powdercoat finish. If you leave it on your tuck, it will rust. Fortunately it is easy on and off.

To mount Yakima style adapters, you will need to put some spacers between the fairing and it's mount points.

I saw extensions at the coleman store this spring, but have not found any online. Don't know if they are still available.

This unit is built in Canada by Sportrack (owned by Thule). The same unit sells for about $180 on other sites. A 22" extension (66.75" total!) is available for about $90.

Accessories

I bought and installed this (Coleman) safari rack as well. I don't think you can get anything even close in quality at double the $74 price! While I like the dimensions of the Megawarrior better for my 4th gen Runner, this was too good of a price to pass up. It mounts directly to my factory rails and crossbars and has a fairly low profile while still providing 6 1/4" height.

I would like to add some accessories to it, specifically an axe/shovel mounting bracket, loadstops (to carry ladders and 2"x4" wood, etc) and straps.

Does anyone know if Yakima accessories will fit onto this Coleman/SportRack basket? The toprail construction is 1 1/8" and I believe that Yakima Loadwarrior and Megawarrior backets are the same. Yakima also makes an accessory bar for the Loadwarrior that just may fit since they are specified as the same wideth (39").

I have contacted Yakima, Thule (who owns Sportrack), Sportrack, and rackoutfitters.com and they either tell me they are "not compatible" or have no information at all. Not much help.

I also bought one of these as a birthday present to myself. I only have a couple crappy cell phone pics right now but am hoping to get some real photos soon.
