I finally got to put my roof rack to work last night. We (Oxford, MS) were hit by a tornado last night. Being a Full-time firefighter for Oxford and a volunteer for Lafayette County, I responded. I had turn-out gear and some other equipment that i didn't want to get wet in the back of the 4runner. So the chainsaw, gas can, bar oil, and a milk crate with chains and rope went on the roof rack. I found it very easily accessible by standing on the rear tire to get stuff on and off. The high sides of the rack meant that i didn't have to strap everything down just to move a few miles to the next demolished house or blocked road. I didn't leave the rack on when I first got it. I planned on putting it on only when I needed it. I knew the storms were coming so I went ahead and put on knowing it might come in handy if the $hit hit the fan...which it did. It won't be coming off anytime soon. Anyhoos, I hope everyone elese in the path of these storms made it out okay. The roof rack is a good investment and very handy, in my opinion.

How bad was the damage down there? I have to come into Oxford every couple months on business. It's changed a LOT since I used to visit friends back in our school days (mid 90's).
I knew AR and E TN got hit hard, but didn't realize MS had been hit too.
My rack will be here tomorrow!

Oxford ended up having two tornados, an F1 hit the NW part of the county and an F3 the entered in the College Hill area and exited the county NE of Abbeville. Next time you're in Oxford drive north on North Lamar until itturns into Old Hwy 7 north...'bout 5miles north of city limits you can see where the tornado crossed the road after taking out the Caterpillar plant.

How close to build quality is the Coleman to the Yakima Loadwarrior? What's the weight? The Loadwarrior is galvanized steel,powdercoated and weighs 25lbs
Fortunatly mine came with the Yakima since those baskets top $250 but the Coleman at any price under $100 looks like a steal.
I use my Yakima a few times during the summer and it's an easy off easy on affair that takes about 15 minutes and it is very sturdy and rated at 150lbs like the factory roof rack is but I never even get close to that.
The spares look cool up top but I don't want to raise my center of gravity that much along with a planned lift soon and it's not a hassle being where it's at for now but it does make a rig look rugged.

IIRC, the load limit for the Coleman is 100 lbs. Also IIRC, the weight of the shipping package was 36 lbs so it probably weighs about the same amount as the Loadwarrior. It feels sturdy.

You guys are just too much. I have been reading this thread for awhile. I was somewhat interested in the rack.
Then it went down in price and it will also fit a 4th generation model. (I am planning on purchasing a new 4Runner plus keep my 2001.)
I have a cheesy cloth roof carrier and thought that coleman looked pretty neat. Anyway, I broke down & just ordered it. $63.59 was the total. I need to quit reading these threads.:bash:

That was just a camping trip up in North GA. Here is a picture of me up in Newfoundland. Inside the canoe is the canvas carrier and attached behind it is a backpack. The canoe is kevlar and only weighs 37 pounds, but still I know how to load up.BTLFED said:

At the top of Maine you hang a right, go through New Brunswick, Canada, go to the tip of Nova Scotia and take a 7 hour ferry to Newfoundland. Then go about 300 miles north to St. Anthony and you will see icebergs and oh yes you will see evidence of the first village of the first European's in North America. If you look at this picture you might be able to see a iceberg in the distance.BTLFED said:

I've been pondering that. I'm going to get a second set of PIAAs and I'm thinking I can just put a large washer on the bolt that holds on the wind deflector and bolt the lights on right there. The mount will be at an angle but I'll just swivel them to point where I want.

Here is a thread from another forum. It shows lights attached to the rack. Pictures 3 and 4 shows pretty much how he did it. It looks pretty sharp.
