I have a friend that takes an RV trip every year; two years ago, he drove from SoCal across the upper US, and came back through lower Canada. Some people have all the fun!

Yes, although it will sit up higher than it would if mounted to factory roof rails and crossbars.

I have also attached a Yakima LoadWarrior crossbar, LoadStops, and axe/shovel brackets to my Safari Rack.

Yesterday, I noticed that Cosctco said they were out of the roof rack, then later it said it was back. Anyway, this morning they are out again.

I got my rack about 6 PM tonight from UPS. I must say, it was better than expected. Heavy and strong. I was concerned that the clamps were not wide enough for my cross bars, but they were fine, actually they were quite a good fit. I didn't know I could move the cross bars on the car, which of course you can.

I will get a picture tomorrow. One thing, my rack did not come with the front spoiler, I re-checked the box and it I couldn't find it. When I called Coleman, they are closed till Monday. I am not too worried. If they won't get me one, it looks fine without it and I am sure they will send me the part.

Glad I jumped on mine when I did, although I was hoping to buy a "spare" at the $59 price.

As I am sure everyone is aware, SUV and truck owners on many other forums also knew about this (past) great deal. Many of them learned and quoted from this forum.

I don't think so. If I were going to spend that much, for only slightly more I could get a much better rack.

I was being "facetious", although in retrospect I seriously doubt you would get a much better rack for only a little more than $179. (I was never too impressed by the aluminum Surco racks, but that is just my opinion.)

The same size Yakima LoadWarrior typically sells for $300 - but it does seem to have a somewhat better coating.

At any rate, the Costco Coleman Safari Rack WAS a great deal.

My theory is that when the basket is empty allowing the wind to move through it is most efficient for miles per gallon.

When the basket is full then diverting the airflow up and over the basket makes sense to me.

Removing it-of course would be most effective, it is 4 clamps secured with nice handle wheels. Being lazy- mine sits up there empty of course 99.7% of the time....I sent my fairing to Mike-fellow 4Runner owner up in Saskatchewan, heck of a nice guy.

I plan to remove mine until I actually need it up there. I believe I did read that one user reported about a 15 mile drop in mileage between fillups when using the rack-that would be the better part of one gallon for me.

Most everything I do know is from you guys and your experiences.
Curious to hear what others have found out.

yea i have posted on YT that i went from 330 a tank to around 310. i took off the rack but was waiting to put it back on until i knew if the fairing would make a difference or not
