College Talk

After much thinking and getting my financial aid statements I've decided to go to NC State! Anyone else on here go there or live around Raleigh? I noticed that Uwharrie is about an hour and a half away so hopefully I'll be getting out there and running some trails/camping every once in a while.

My brother is an engineering major at NC State. Tough stuff but he loves it. Lot's of good bass fishing in Raleigh! Hope you like brick lol

Good to hear there's good fishing there, I've been trying to find good bass spots around here. And yea...everything's brick.

2010 graduate of The Ohio State University here. Got a great (albeit expensive) education and landed a great job. Met my beautiful wife there. I can't complain at all. Go Bucks!

This I disagree with a bit. I don't think that on average an ARTs degree from UCSD or CAL or Standford or Harvard or anywhere pays off well for most graduates.

I have a liberal arts degree from Harvard. Relative to most of the population, I make ALOT of money. I have a lot of friends in my circle from Harvard and Stanford and all of them are doing pretty well. In all fairness, my concentration is actually very science based, even though my formal degree is arts. I work in IT.

Computer Information Systems major at James Madison University checkin in here.

All I can say is that even when all my friends graduating with CIS degrees have sweet jobs at KPMG, PWC and the like, I'm still terrified to graduate into the job market. Finding even a summer internship alone is headache-inducing right now

Don't fret, IT/Comp Sci will be a strong market for a long time. Those with great communication skills/attitudes and good analytical skills will do best.

I am now done with school (as of May 25th!). Just finished my Masters in Software Engineering at Harvard. I feel like I have been running and gunning for a long time and looking forward to my 4Runner project and getting outdoors to see the great country. As I write this I am on a plane to pick up my MGM 2014 Trail! Now that school is over I will begin a new adventure!

I went to high school with the top tier of my classmates going to Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, etc. The valedictorian received a full ride to Yale as an English major. But I will unequivocally guarantee she could have done anything she wanted due to her high academic acumen in all things learned, though with her father being a writer, the ability to write came with ease. Her story probably mirrors my fellow classmates who matriculated at the colleges aforementioned. This is why aiming for a top college matters, which yours truly didn't understand until it was too late.
