Colorado guys we need help!!!!

So myself and a few other 4runners and taco's are driving to Colorado, leaving July 31 to head that way. We will start in Ourray/Telluride area. Some plan on leaving after the Addicted Off Road Jamboree but some will end in Denver area. I need help picking out the BEST campsites to camp in, trails that are a must and if there are any events in the area we need to hit, (beer fesivals, concerts, ext). We would also like to meet some new friends and wheel with some new friends. If you can help us out that would be great.

side note; not trying to do any of the harder trails. We are planning on doing Black bear and Imogene Pass so stuff like this is what we are planning for. We do have to drive back to Atlanta when the trips over with....

I would also do Corkscrew Pass/California Gulch.

If you run Imogene from Telluride to Ouray, there are lots of stellar camping spots on the Ouray side. Check out Yankee Boy Basin, an offshoot trail from Imogene that is definitely worth your time. If you decide to start in Ouray and end in Telluride, camp in Town Park by the river and you'll be close to everything. You should be able to find spots if it's the middle of the week. Another option if you want to be a little farther out is Alta Lakes. Ton of camp spots up there. I might be able to meet up with you depending on when you're here. I'm heading up to the Jamboree that next weekend.

What's your estimated ETA if you leave Atlanta on the 31st? I'll be there 7/26 - 8/2, staying at the KOA. I've been making an annual pilgrimage to Ouray for over 10 years. Would love to meet up on Sunday, 8/2 if possible and pass on some pointers and general lay of the land.

One of my more favorite camp sites and forest roads is in Boulder County. Forysth Canyon - Gross Res. has some amazing camp sites. Nederland area has some as well (Check Jake Blicks photo threads).

Another place I am checking out Friday is Chinns Lake. Another offroad area that is decently easy but will throw some challenges your way is Bill Moore Lake. Snow should pretty much be melted off the top there. I haven't ventured out too far past Idaho Springs to camp yet but will be this summer.

Yes!!!! Please that would be great. We are leaving Atl the 31 and plan to sleep in Memphis. Then head to Amerillo TX and stay the night then drive to Ourray. if you can private message me your contact info that way I can be in contact with you on our way out. Thanks again.

If you head up to Denver via 285 there are tons of trails and camping around the Jefferson area. Check out traildamage.com

Could also pick up Wells CO trail book if you want more info, covers a lot south of I70

Just my 2 cents. When you guys are finished in the Telluride area and headed to the Jamboree; if time allows you can hit some epic backroads to Buena Vista. I have made this trip from Telluride: East of Montrose on Hwy 50 at the start of Blue Mesa Reservoir you can take a paved road #92 it heads back west and follows the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and is an awesome drive, that takes you through little mining towns of Crawford and Hotchkiss, then you head north on #133 toward the Paonia State Rec area from there you take County Road 12 (Kebler Pass (easy)) right into Crested Butte. From Crested Butte there are a few options Pearl Pass and Italian Creek Road both can be kind of difficult or there is a paved road to Taylor Reservoir from there you head east over Cottonwood Pass and right into Buena Vista. Miles of easier and VERY scenic roads that are off the beaten path and will make your trip unforgettable. I would also recommend that you pick up a volume of "Guide to Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails By C. Wells and the Colorado Atlas and Gazetteer by Delorme, I never head into the mountains with out them. Have Fun

Can also recommend alta lakes... great spot. Pick up a 6pack, or more, of ska brewing modus Hoperandi and you'll be in heaven! If you want a cool hotel, in telluride I can Highly recommend the New sheridan... Check for deals, price varies greatly.
