Colorado Meeting Again! August 11 2012

For those coming from Denver that is a 3hr (6hr round) trip from the trailhead.:jaw drop:

Not sure if that much time and gas is worth a maybe on the trail.

Any chance of something closer? Maybe between Denver and CS? Love to go and not expecting a northern trail but...... Have to ask.

There are more trails in that area that you could run afterwards. Hayden Pass is to the north or you could run down to Medano Pass and into the Great Sand Dune NP if you want to spend more time in the area or hike the trail at the end of Hermit back to one of the small lakes.

Well thats not Diff that when CS folk drove 2+ hours to meet the Denver folk on a run. We go south on trails and we go north on trail. Its never at everyones backdoor.

I am trying to plan some time in the Tin Cup area before Fall.
I am taking time off the last week in August and if the stars align I might make a run there for a day or so. Nothing final yet. I think my wife is planning on me putting a amp and rear speakers in her FJ that week but that is just 1 day out of the week. Besides I have not bought them yet and they may not get delivered in time.

I did not say it needed to be at my 'backdoor'. Actually I said something in the middle and had no problem with the CS runs. But that far south (or north) plus easy 'service road' runs equals a low turn out.

I think that a trip like Schofield pass could be fun but (according to Google maps) it is 6hrs one way from Denver, 5 hrs from Sc and about 4hrs from Pueblo. I think we all know they are Google estimates are slow in reality but still, that is 259 miles from Denver through the mountains and I live in Aurora. We did a trip up to Red Stone last year. It was a long trip, one way and was great ( got to see the 'Old Mill' and Marroon Bells when the Aspens were changing) but we did it over a weekend with planning. Maybe we can plan a trip like that with group camping involved and have a great time. At least that trail ranks a 6 on Traildamage. I think I am going riding on the bike with another group tomorrow and then scouting our next camping trip on Sunday. Gotta get some 4x4ing somehow. To be honest I was really looking forward to seeing Meg and Foot again and Eric is also missing out. On a bright note, Eric's rig is in the shop right now getting all the goodies put on and he should be good sometime next week.

I'm heading out there to Westcliffe in a bit, we have to pick up a computer that was getting repaired over that way anyway. So I guess while I'm out there I might as well check it out. Maybe do Medano Pass too.
