Colorado Off-Roading in Winter

Being somewhat new to Colorado/Denver and switching from a 2wd SR5 to a 4wd trail, I am dying to get out and get the truck a little dirty. Since being so new to the area, are there any good winter wheeling areas that aren't covered in 3 feet of snow? Really anywhere to get some dirt under my tires and a decent view would be nice.

I am in the same boat as you! I just moved from Texas with a 2wd limited 3rd gen and upgraded to a 2013 Trail Edition. We should get out on some trails if you hear or anything. Mine is pretty stock and will stay that way for a little while.

Dirtopia.com is a great site for a list of trails and info for all states. Hope this helps you get out on a trail

I live way up North, but by us most areas sub 6-8k' in elevation have minimal snow right now. Dig up some trails and keep your elevation low. There's plenty of dirt to go around.

I've yet to travel to Denver but I wouldn't mind a trip south.

Being from Monument, between the Springs and Denver, I can say Mt. Herman has some very nice trails. Gold Camp Road is excellent. Although, in the winter it can be extremely nasty. We had to turn back in our convoy of a Jeep, taco, and H3. I highly recommend Mt. Badly. The scenery is fantastic, trails range from easy to extreme.
I have yet to go offloading a lot with the lack of a vehicle and all, but I know those are always a pleasure.

You guys should check out Front Range 4x4 for a group that does a lot of runs. We had a good time on China Wall yesterday for our Anniversary Run and have members generally from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs.
