Colorado Toyota Jamboree, who's going?

We only list the harder trails on the registration form because those trails are usually the biggest groups, and we want to limit or stagger runs so we don't have a huge bottle neck on the trail.

There a plenty of trails and scenic passes in the Buena Vista area for mild rigs. I remember one year I ran Tun Cup pass in my stock 2000 4runner and fished at Mirror Lake up there with my boys. So, while there are a lot of fully built rigs and even buggies, there is just as much to do for a stock rig as well. In fact, I actually think that mildly built to stock rigs have started to out number the SAS'd ones in the last couple years.

This is a beautiful area to explore.

If you are thinking about going, get registered quickly and let them know you are interested. They appear to be having a hard time gauging the interest in the event due to lack of registrations.

As of right now, we have 11 registrations. Its frustrating, because at this point, I think that putting this on the normal way we do it, is going to die. We have to have at least 23 registered just to break even on what it costs for the land rental, toilets, and trash service. I'm not sure if its just the dates or what happened this year, but we are really concerned about it. Even with the raffle, I think its going to be hard to cover costs, and I never want to use raffle $$$ to cover costs as that is what is donated to Save the Trail.

So, at this point, we have two options.
Either 1. you promote the hell out of this event to get people signed up.

There are several issues with doing #2 as we cannot promote it as an event. Basically, we are just getting together to wheel. There will be no BBQ, no raffle, and no trail designated runs. In other words, you show up because a bunch of us are camping that weekend and run whatever you want to run. Its up to you.

As far as I know the event is still on, and all the comments about low registration numbers are no longer on the Facebook page. I think everyone was holding out until the deadline got closer to finalize their plans and trails. Maybe Scotty will chime in ( [MENTION=17736]AddictedOffroad[/MENTION] ) to verify that everything is still as planned.

On a side note; an online or email registration form with a Paypal account might get registrations in faster for future events. Just something to think about...

Event is most definitely still on. Just keep in mind that we really don't have on site registration. So, i want to make sure everyone gets theirs in early. It helps us with the planning and organizing.

Swweeeeet!!! Jeremiah and I had talked about doing Wheelers Lake on Friday and Chinaman's Gulch on Saturday. So that is what I'm officially signed up for.

However I had been debating Holy Cross (or what I can make it through anyway) and when I dropped my registration off at Addicted Scotty tried to talk me into it. He said its no big deal if we change our minds at the event I just didn't want to be rushed in a huge group of far more capable rigs before and after me.

Stoked you guys can make it up. Also if you and TBuzz want to do Blanca sometime in a real small group hit me up. I've got family in Southern CO and it wouldn't be a big deal for me to make a weekend out of.

Like Kyle said, I will be running Wheeler Lake Friday and Chinaman's on Saturday. The exit to Carnage is located just off of Chinaman's, so we planned on watching some of the action for a while before heading back to camp. I will not be camping Thursday night, as Wheeler Lake is only 30 minutes from my house, I'll just drop the trailer at the trailhead.

Holy Cross is a fun trail, but the last time I ran it during the Jamboree there were 35 rigs on the trail. It was fun, but a bit crowded. I prefer if possible to be in a smaller group. Also, by running another trail on Friday it brings the overall number of rigs on Holy Cross down a bit. One year I would really like to tow the trailer up to French Creek Thursday afternoon, set up camp, and watch everyone come through Friday morning.

I've had my registration packet printed and sitting on my desk for the last few days as I was waiting to hear back from you guys. I'll write those two trails in as my selections and send it off tomorrow.

I'm not going to be able to make it this year unfortunately. I'm getting married at the end of August and we've got wedding events planned for that weekend already. We'll meet up one of these days! I am jealous though, lots of great trails and it's an awesome time of year to be out here. Wheeler Lake, Chinaman's and Holy Cross, what a trip that will be. Lots of good wheeling on those trails. If you'd like to close out your trip with a more mellow trail and awesome scenery, a good one is Mt. Antero. Takes you up to about 13,000 feet, nice views. Although last year when I ran it it was really washed out and we didn't quite make it to the summit. Really loose and crumbly rock on a shelf road is kinda scary. At any rate, have fun guys and take lots of pictures!

Thanks for the advice RE Mt. Antero... I've been curious about that one for a long time. I'd check it out, but I think TBuzz and I are going to try and find some fishing on Sunday before we head out.

My plan was to head up on Thursday as well. I'm about 5 hours away, so I'll probably leave early afternoon and get up there around 7-8pm.

I think it's a good idea to get there on Thurs because we have a 70 mile drive from the camping spot to the trail on Friday morning.

Nate, I would say October is probably going to be the end of the season on Holy Cross. Per traildamage, the elevation is 9,365 to 11,798 feet. At that elevation, first snow is in late Sept/early Oct. and it would only take one good storm to shut it down for the year.

Chinaman's is at 7,832 to 8,904 feet. You could probably run that one into November/December, depending on snowfall.

Looks like I may end up coming to this. It falls right in between my job change!
