Columbus OH?? Possible Move

That's my old stomping grounds--I lived in Lancaster which is about 30 miles SE of Columbus, but I worked in Columbus. Dublin is one of the higher-class 'burbs, located on the north side. They didn't require inspections when I lived there (before '08). Most of the northern-half suburbs are upper-middle class to upper class (Dublin, Powell, Upper Arlington, etc.). Mostly I would stay out of the central and near-east sides of the city except to work. Your best scenery and wheeling is in the southeast portion of the state, where you're getting into the Appalachian foothills.
Any Idea about gun laws, lift laws, general laws prohibiting me from living well..lol

They did finally push through concealed carry, but they did so with a lot of restrictions, so it's only so-so for effectiveness. The state police/highway patrol carry a lot of weight there, and they fought this all the way. For the record, those guys are brutal on the highways, too--Ohio in general has been known for decades as one of the stiffest states when it comes to patrolling the roads (they even joked about them on the movie Cannonball Run, made back in the 70's!). As for lift laws, I believe they have some in force, but it's pretty much up to the locals to enforce that stuff. I didn't have any tall rigs back when I lived there. As for living well, they do have lots of taxes, and depending on what community you're in, there can be a lot of legislative red tape on free enterprise, etc.. A friend of mine is a self-employed mechanic, and wanted to build a larger shop in Lancaster to expand his operation, but the fees to get it okayed were going to be more than the building would cost, so he said screw it and kept working out of his two-car building. Each community will be somewhat different, of course.

Columbus is great if you are into motorcycling as they have Iron Pony Motorsports! It is an huge building for anything you would ever need to shred on or off road (nuts and bolts to gear) and a couple years back they added a dealership to the location (Yamaha, Aprilia, etc.). Also, Mid-Ohio race track is not far from Columbus, either.

+1 ... My Indiana carry permit is not honored by OH. The scenery is nice. Columbus outer belt (Dublin, etc) is nice. The highway patrol sucks.
However, there are definitely worse places you could move to. easy starting point for east coast road trips. More hills/valley's compared to Indiana, so more fun finding trails.

All very good info...IL was another choice to buy a warehouse in, so if I do not find a location in Columbus I guess I can look there.
I will be in OH on the 19-24 of this month looking at properties. If I find a warehouse I will also be looking for a house within a reasonable driving distance.

You hit the nail on the head with those two! Iron Pony is an AWESOME store--it uses a former KMart building, to give you some idea of size. I bought a lot of gear from those guys. I've also been to Mid-Ohio many times, and loved it every time! What a beautiful track. They also have great airshows in nearby Dayton, or at least did until Obama's family started using the military's budget to fund their vacations instead. You've got Lake Erie and Cedar Point to the north, the Appalachian foothills to the southeast (great hiking and exploring), plus a lot of stuff right in Columbus. Yeah, the place has its negatives, but it also offers quite a few pluses, too.
Why specifically OH or IL? IN is in the middle.. and has continuously been rated as a great state to live and do business in/from. Heck Amazon has a major distribution center just west of the Airport.
Plus our gun laws are a lot more friendly then either OH and most definitely IL. Just something to consider.

I may be interested in IN. Depending on warehouse availability. OH is pretty affordable. I am the VP of a large equipment manufacture and we spend over $260,000 a year in shipping to the NE from our Texas office. I just need a warehouse that I can service the NE and around the Great Lakes without spending so much in shipping.
We did all of our rate quotes out of Columbus, however IN was on the list, but commercial property is a little outrageous there.
I will do a few current searches and perhaps visit a few properties in IN since I will only be a few hours away.

Indianapolis itself may be a bit pricey, but if you go a little outwards, things should get better quickly.
Amazon is in Plainfield (so is Griots Garage). I believe amazon also has a facility in Whiteland. Greenwood may also not be a bad location, or Lebanon if you go north.
Nice thing is, we have major interstates going north, south east and west AND a Fedex hub at the airport. Not sure how rail shipments work, but there is rail coming in from all 4 corners too. CSX has an office downtown.
Some of the Automobile crash cities like Marion and Lafayette may also have some cheaper realestate at the moment, but then you're a bit further north again.

Whatever you need to know just ask away, your guns will be a ok I carry every day, the laws are not as strict as Texas at least from what I've heard. If you need to redue a ccw I've got about four friends that do the class. But your Texas license should be fine if you have one. I've lived here all my life. If you need some good places to look at stay towards the north end of Columbus. Dublin, westerville, Worthington. Depends on your budget though. Lots of stuff to do and plenty of wheeling if you don't mind driving just a bit. Pm me or just post a reply. Always looking for more 4runners to wheel.with since everyone here has a jeep. Since we are 200 miles from where they are built lol.

Oh and check sunbury Ohio for your warehouse space plenty of great areas for that plus they want big business like that there.
