Picked up a 2015 LE on Mothers Day weekend. Nautical Blue Metallic in color. Traded in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit that I bought brand new with 11 miles on it. Long story short, it was great vehicle and very capable off road, maybe the most capable factory 4x4 I have ever owned, WHEN IT WORKED! I owned it for 42 months and it was in the shop 37 times not including maintenance visits. All of this was under warranty or extended warranty. With 71,000 miles on it my wife and I could see the writing on the wall that the JGC, although nice was a proverbial lemon. We didn't want to spend $56,000 on a new vehicle again (or we would have bought a GX460) and we really like the styling and out of the box capability the 4runner. The big seller was the lack of major reliability issues.
We are part of the 1% that actually uses the off road capabilities of a vehicle. Granted it only goes off road maybe 5 or 10% of its total miles, but we still use it. We liked the TE and as I have stated elsewhere, we must have been in TE heaven that week, because one dealership had 6 of them on the lot.
Overall we (meaning my wife) decided that the luxury and AWD was more appealing than Crawl Control and KDSS. As she pointed out we have my 2000 Wrangler for the real adventures, and we have my truck for pulling anything larger than our pop-up trailer.
So far we love it! As I have also said else where the 4runner is not under powered by any means (under powered would be a 4runner with a 4cyl) However it is not over powered like the JGC was with its 360hp Hemi. This takes a change in driving style, a little longer to pass, and not as quick to get to speed, but it is manageable.
I have already started the MODS. Spidertrax 1.25 spacers, inner fender mod, moved the auto running boards to accommodate the Husky mud flaps. Color coded door handles, roof rack delete, and back up cam anytime mod are in the works for the near future.
in closing we hope to have and enjoy this 4runner for many, many, many trouble free years.
