compare these lifts please

I had the SS1.2 front end (pieced it together myself for $200) and now Icon's. I really didn't like the amount of body roll I experienced with the Tundra's and was on the 2nd perch. I just don't like that you have to pull your entire suspension apart to adjust if you aren't happy with the height. Once you start adding skids, bumpers and a winch (if you go that route) it sucks you can't dial in the suspension exactly where you want. Plus I'm not sold on the LC coils in the back. Some people swear by them and others replace them pretty quick. I'd rather go with Superflex coils that come with the Toytec package. Plus you can get some LC shocks and LC coils for $200 easily. No need to pay a surplus for new LC coils as they all seem to do the same thing.

Really it's your money and all those extra's aren't really necessary. I've been running the stock panhard bar and location for the past 2 years and fine with it. No diff drop for me either and no issues besides on torn cv boot, but that happens to just about everyone diff drop or not.

This is basically what I was getting at. If you want the SS kit, you're better off piecing it together yourself. You can get the same basic setup for about half the price of what SS sells it for. Steve charges a premium for basically putting all the parts together in a box for you.

I know for some people ease of adjust-ability aka coilovers is a big perk but for me regardless of what kit I get, I'm going to want maximum lift for maximum comfort for dd and maximum off-road ability while runing 285/75/16 tires. I dont plan on making any adjustments. So basically it comes down to what "feels" better and what "performs" better and what puts less stress on CV. If I get 3" out of the coilovers its a fact i'll loose some down travel so now I need to factor in cost of UCA's to help gain some of that down travel back.

I'm really curious as to what makes you say this. I have been thinking the LC setup was ideal for the rear, albeit most of them are going to be slightly higher lift than the Superflex, but what do you like about the Superflex over the LC?

How much lift would you get out of the 5th perch with stock springs?

Can't remember who ran these on here, was it driffter? Or someone's brother? He said it rode really nice and was around 1.5-2" of lift, another inch if 99 talls are used. This is my plan for the front, then about 2.5"-3" lift in the back for some unloaded rake.

what Icon coilovers work? Are they specifically for the 4runner or do I need to look for ones made for a tacoma? If neither, whats the specs on the ones I would use?

That actually sounds like a really good set up... I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

The tacoma front strut assemblies are the same as 4Rs, so I believe that's what you go for.

Here is the thing about the "MAX" lift idea... why have it be all or nothing? With the coilovers you can adjust your height to anywhere in that range... so you are not limited to HAVING to run 3" and ruining some of your stuff prematurely. You can actually run 2.5 or 2.68 for that matter and find those happy mediums, and it's simple to do. Just a thought.

Simply put, the Toytec coilovers are a better product for the fronts. What you do in the rear notwithstanding.

These will work out great. 58715SD 95.5 - 04 Tacoma Extended Travel Remote Reservoir Front Coil-over Shock Kit - ICON Vehicle Dynamics They are $500 off their normal price, but will be the last coilover you will ever buy. They will ride amazing and are extended travel, which will help for offroading. They do "require" aftermarket UCA's, but people have ran them without UCA's and no problems.

Now I haven't had either (I have superflex coils waiting to installed), but one of the main gripes of LC coils is the height and lack of spring rate. They ride like Cadillacs, but also people say they are too bouncy, scary around corners and can't handle towing/weight in the back all that well. The Superflex coils are progressive, which I've heard is much better. They aren't as tall (3.75" vs 4+ of LC's) and they handle weight better. Just some observations I've made and I will recomment after I install my Superflex's. I'm not a Toytec fanboy either, so I'm not trying to push anyone towards them. I personally like the design of Icon and the other coilover companies than Toytecs coilover, but Toytec does offer a complete package.

I built my own lift out of Steves parts at SS and some parts from toytec/ome. I didnt want to spend the tons of money for the coilovers which are way overpriced in my opinion. I really just wanted 3" full front lift and 3.5" rear with the most flex possible.

Front I went with OME springs/comfort sport shocks and the SS 1" lift sleeve. The sleeve gives you full 3" lift without the dreaded droop of the cv shaft, steve says he tested them and they dont need limiting straps and wont wear the ball joints anymore than stock suspension.

The rear I went with 7 wraps, tokico shocks, SS bump stops and SS sway bar brackets. The sway bar brackets are great because they still allow for full flex and keep it connected. The rear bump stops save the rear shocks from blowing out from over compression. He has thought everything through on the SS kit.

Toytec kind of dont care and just say you "should" be fine without extended bump stops or some of the stuff they dont do, they never gave me a straight answer just "should" be okay.

But if I had the money, coil overs up front and SS 7 wrap style in the rear for the best setup.

After reading all this and doing more research, i'm really starting to lean towards some Icon coilovers, UCA's and then figure out the back, although I have a good idea already.

What are everyone's thoughts on the different UCA's offered:
Icon $775
Total Chaos $730
Camburg $570
Light Racing $425

I could of swore I read and saw pictures of someone stating that the hole for the spindle had to be drilled out to 3/4" so "theres no turning back". I think it was the total chaos ones??

On another note, the perks of adjusting coilovers... well every time you crank them up or down wouldnt you need to get an alignment?

Not really. The TRD coils are going for $168 each now retail. The shocks are up to $112 retail if you use the retail version.

In comparison an Eibach 950-600 (5.5" x 9.5") Coil $55 each is what Toytec uses.

The TRD springs are progressive, the Eibach springs are not. They can not be compared because they are not the same.

These are all BRAND new factory parts. They are expensive. Yes certainly you can find junk for 1/2 to 1/4 of new, but here is the bottom line, are you finding the right junk. From reading threads on here, overwhelmingly people are not. They are not finding the same parts I am using. Look for all the posts with people that have a disaster with the LC coils and look for all the posts that people love them when they got the correct ones. Is it the correct part? Is that used part worn out?

As for the front coil overs, I have all the setting dialed in for all the lift heights. Bumper/winch/skids, what ever you have I can tell you how to set them, no guessing and then trying to dial it in the the spanner wrench which I think is time consuming.

White and snow, I do not know who you are, but if you call me I am sure I can help you set your truck up so you are happy. I can't help you if I don't know you need help.

I think you want to research corrosion of aluminum in Houston. If it's an issue, keep the So Cal stuff in So Cal. If aluminum has corrosion issues in the gulf, I would use a product made of steel.
