Compatible Oil Filters both V8 & V6

Thought I would do some research on my own as much of the information on running alternate oil filters for V6 and/or V8 4runners is more or less biased. I basically want to run something larger as I don't believe the standard issue filter (M1-102) to be adequate.
So here's some of my findings I thought I would share, take em for what they are worth and don't come back to me if your engine blows up...

Via Mobil1 Parts Catalog - Mobil Online Parts Catalog
The standard oil filter for V6/V8 is of course the M1-102.
Outside Diameter: 76mm
Height: 86mm
Inside Diameter & Thread: 3/4"-16
PSI Relief: YES
Anti-Drain: YES

From there I looked at every filter Mobil1 makes via the Part Search and found the following filters that "should" also be compatible.
M1-205 and M1-209.
Both of which have the same dimensions and feature set.
O.D.: 76mm
H: 86mm
I.D.-Thread: 3/4"-16
PSI Relief: YES
Anti-Drain: YES

NOTE: I left out filters that were slightly smaller/larger by even 1mm in outside diameter and/or did not have PSI relief/Anti-Drain features.

Mobil also lists some M1-102 cross compatible filters (not the M1-205 or M1-209) but alternate manufacturers... One of which I thought was rather interesting so if you want some bling you could run this :)
PH7022 - Harley Davidson(87-04) & Buell(87-08) Chrome Oil Filter
O.D.: 80mm
H: 87mm
I.D.-Thread: 3/4"-16

I then did a cross reference of Mobil1 filters with WIX filters - WIX filters, WIX oil filters, WIX air filters, WIX fuel filters, WIX Heavy Duty Oil Filters : Filter Look-Up.
WIX is nice enough to offer several more specs from which I see the M1-209 is the only filter interchangeable with the M1-102 in my mind.

I should also mention I did see another thread where others on here are running the M1-209 with success. I now plan on doing the same as clearance does not appear to be an issue with the M1-209 on a V8.

The OEM filter for 3rd gens is far superior to anything aftermarket.

Aftermarket companies make money by selling a lessor product after convincing buyers theirs is superior.

I have seen a Toyotal oil filter cut open next to a FRAM. There is no comparison.

Go OEM and unless you have actually seen the aftermarket cut open, don't believe the internet hype.

:P

I definitely agree that OEM filters are legit don't get me wrong there.
I was primarily looking for what my options are for running a larger filter than stock while still staying within specs for bypass pressure and diameter.

Well based on your post you probably know more about this then I do but like I said above, I once saw a display that had both the OEM filter and a fram cut open.

I literally :wow2: :wow2: :wow2:

Because the difference was so impressive in favor of the OEM filter.

:keyboard:

I have the M1-102 in right now, but recently bought a ten pack of Toyota 90915-YZZD3 filters off ebay for a good price so switching over to those... only hear good things about the denso filters made for Toyota. I have nothing against the Mobil 1 filters, they're just more expensive.
