complications with buying out of state and back to CA

I'm planning to buy an 05 SE V8 4x4 when they come out and would really like to have side bags. I was thinking, instead of special ordering one and having to wait 2-3 months for it, what if i just went to arizona to purchase one ( i've been told its hard to get a SE w/o a v8 and side bags.

My question is just what kind of complication and trouble will i be getting myself into. I"m not doing this to save on tax or what not, though it does sound attractive, but just to get the car i want w/o having to wait any longer.

anyone with experiences in bringing in a new car? esp. from arizona?

What should a California resident look for when buying a new vehicle from another state?

California residents are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time it is purchased or aquired.

i've purchased numerous vehicles from AZ.

Just make sure that vehicle's emissions include CA guidelines. As long as it does you won't have any problems!

Also, if you buy in AZ you'll be expected to pay the taxes and licensing at your CA dmv though (pain in the rear and it'll be one big lump sum). (somethings to factor). Some dealers in AZ will factor a percentage and just do the math so but you'll still have to claim that you've paid the taxes in AZ which will then be transferred to CA by the dealer. They'll know all the details on stuff regarding registering your vehicle in CA.

Basically you're in the green, just make sure the emissions are the same for CA (which I believe should be unless it's stated otherwise).

yah i'm pretty sure the 05 4runner's emissions qualify for all 50 states, know i know that CAlifornia just enacted the toughest emissions required in the nation, if not the world.

i'm just more concerned about the work that'll be required. I would obviously like to have an 05 in january as opposed to waiting for a special order to come in, but really dont want to get involved in a situation where i mite be able to register my car or have to pay a lot more to register it and what not.
