Components for JL 300/2

Hey, I got a JL 300/2 and looking for a 6.5 component set for 03 4Runner. I was going to go with JL XR component and coxials with a 300/4, but decided to sell that to a friend (the 300/4) and just go with the 2-channel. So my questions is: What components can handle this amp (150x2) and would be in my sub $200 budget.

CDT 61-A's for $169.99
Diamond Audio's
Anything else?

These components will be matched with some coaxial's for the rear doors and a JL 250/1 pushing a Stealthbox.

do you realize how loud 150 watts on a mid-range speaker is? You really don't need but half of that. You are talking ear-piercing loud volumes. I would have stuck with the 300/4.

YIKES, that wasn't the response I was hoping for. I mean I could back out of giving my buddy the 300/4 and keep it, but I was always under the impression that more power was better with components. I am not going to crank these things all the time, so yes they could get loud, but I thought I was supposed to give them as much power as possible. Is that true or untrue?

save up ur money, and buy some focals, the more exspensiver the focal model the better, maybe u should really try k2 or utopias. i have the 300/4 which is perfect for my 96 base runner with the a/d/s/ al6 comps up front and focal access in the rear.

I'll be honest with you man... I'm an installer at a shop in NC...

I'd say a 300/2 would be perfect if you were running 3 ways up front... ie: speaker in the door, tweeter, and adding speakers to the kick panel. That's it. 150 watts on your highs is a hell of a lot different than on a sub. 300/2 is probably the least common amp sold at my shop. And if you aren't planning on doing competitions, you really are going with a load of unnecessary power.

Yeah, after doing some more research I think I am going to re-think my decision and get my 300/4 and forget this crazy idea I had!!!

Now I still need to decide what to get for my components. I might go with ZR's or XR's to make my entire system JL or CDT's or Alpine's....oh too many choices!!!!

If you have a good 2Channel amplifier, use it, just cause it makes 150w dosent mean your going to use it...

Whats nice about using only, say 100w of it, is that your going to be able to get incredible sound quality all the way up to the 100w you will be using (if you use 100w speakers)

Now, a couple of things about speakers...

If you are really looking for a kick-ass setup, i would suggest getting INCREDIBLE front speakers and running them off the amp, and leaving the factory, if not some basic $100 speakers for the rears, and run them off the radio's power.

This will bring all the sound to the front of the vehicle and give you incredible "imaging" (the effect that the music you are listening to is coming from the dashbaord)

Next about speaker make / model / price

A major factor in getting your speakers to sound good is, getting the acoustics around them correct. ex. Dynamat (or similar product) will help tighten up your music, i would suggest getting plenty of it, and doing a layer on the outer door skin of your car (from inside of the car ), and another on the inner skin (where the plastic and wires cahn be seen under the door panel)

Next, 6.5" speaker pods/baffles...will help increase mid-bass response, and again, tighten up your music.

Finally...you can spend $200 and get a decent set of component speakers almost anywhere, and they will sound good under the circumstances that you did all of the above steps.

Personally, i picked polk-audio for all my speaker / amplifier equipment, and got their MOMO line of product. Their sound quality is amazing..its definitley aimed to the audiophile customer, not someone who is looking to shatter their windows apart.

Focal, as mentioned eariler is also a great company to look into, as well as alpines type-X speakers, and some of JL audio's component sets are good too..

Best bet, go into your local high-end car-audio shop and listen to em, bring a cd that you like with you, im sure they will let you listen to the speakers with your music of choice..

Oh man, know I am all confused on what to do. But I do appreciate all your guys help.

Here are my options as I see it:

1) Go with the JL 300/4 and get 6.5 components and coaxials. Thinking JL VR's, CDT 61A's, Alpine Type ?'s, or Focal 165A1's. And then matching coaxials and power all four speakers with 75W per speaker. I figure this would give me a nice solid sound and I would dynomat it all.

or

2) Go with JL 300/2 and get 6.5 components, maybe a little nicer one's like Focal 165V1's or JL XR's or something like that. Then I would leave the coaxials be for the time being and run them off my head unit.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I also have a Stealthbox with a JL 250/1 that is also going in.

I think I am leaning towards Option 1.

Any thoughts?

focal is better than jl audio, and the acess is cheaper than the jl audio xr, but it sounds way more better.

You know I've found it pointless to argue with someone about speakers, because you don't get anywhere. Speakers are all about preference.

Personally I think Polk Momo sound like garbage... and I'm a JL fan but I think the XR and ZR stuff is way overpriced for the sound....I do like both XR and ZR tweeters... Others on here swear by all of those. VR stuff is my favorite JL line and the best bang for the buck in my opinion. But again, speaker choice is all preference. Go to a shop that has some of this stuff and listen to them, then make your pick. But since you are asking for advice, find a shop that has Memphis.

The bad thing about running only a 2 channel amp and leaving the rears factory is that you have clear crisp music playing through the front and garbage playing out the back speakers. You really don't hear the back speakers all that much, but trust me you will hear it. You can always run that 4 channel amp and turn up the gain on the front channel if you just wanted your fronts to be louder.
