Computer Boards ECUs Interchangeable?

Nopity-nope-nope. They are specific to year & transmission. The part number on the case is what you need to match. Toyota was smart and even the plugs won't fit if they are too different.

There are some ECU's that are interchangeable but most are not.
Example: I swapped in an ECU from a 98 4WD federal emissions (auto tranny) into my 97 with no issues. All of the connectors are identical in this instance. But, when I swapped in a different engine (99 engine into my 97) the ECU from the 99 was completely different and wouldn't work even though it was also 4WD with federal emissions (auto tranny). I had to swap the original engine harness from my 97 engine onto the donor engine (99).
Moral of the story, most ECU's are not interchangeable but some do swap. You're best bet is to get one from the same sub "generations" (96-98, 99-00, or 01-02 assuming identical specs).

97 SR5 to 99 Tacoma
Sorry but this is off topic just need some insight, I have a 97 SR5 with a blown engine. I also have a 99 Tacoma with a good engine 100k miles. I recently swapped drivetrain for drivetrain. I also swapped computers, everything looks to be the same besides the plug into the dash as the plug from the Tacoma is blue and the plug from the 4 runner is gray. Tacoma has 2 pins and 4 runner has 6. Can anyone tell me what the connector is for? and what the pins read out from both?
I know the Tacoma is a standard t case as the 4 runner has electric lock and what not I do not need that since this is for my farm.

It's just a junction that allows you to disconnect wires so you can pull the entire harness through the firewall when removing the engine. The wires are various engine functions. Best bet is to fire it up and see if runs. Chances are the pins that aren't used also don't hook up to anything on the new ECU you swapped in.
You can also download or purchase an Electrical Wiring Diagram for the year 4Runner you have (other years will not work, Toyota changed the wires colors!).

Okay so I have the engine running but I do not have a tach signal, I'm thinking the plug junction that doesn't match color is my issue. I cannot find a wiring diagram with either of these connectors they both come from the engine main harness but do not plug into the computer but they plug into the dash harness about the glove box.

Looks like you're going to need to either swap your dash harness with it, or ditch the 99 Tacoma engine harness and ECU and use your old 97 4Runner engine wire harness & ECU. Any sensor that doesn't fit you'll also swap on to the 99 engine from your 97. Or you could try and trace the tach wire that's missing but I have a feeling it's going to be hard to find where it all goes in behind the dash.
