Conceal Carry

Anyone carry a concealed pistol/revolver? I have my ccw permit and was thinking of good places to have one concealed. Or alternatively make something.

:uzi:

1st Rule of thumb:

1. Do you own research on CCW as it relates to a Motor Vehicle

2. CCW, don't let everyone know. That's why its called a CCW..You no longer have a CCW as you just advertised this fact to everyone on this forum

Don't be a jackwagon. #1 I was asking for a 4Runner specific answer. And #2 all the criminals where I live just go around on T4R and cruise around looking for my 4Runner now so they'll avoid me?... What a maroon.

We should change the topic to "Where do you mount your weapon in your 4Runner?"

Right now, I just keep my G23 in the center console while driving. Thinking of mounting a cheap kydex or making one for the console. Also been thinking about buying a cheap wheel gun for inside the useless compartment under the AC controls.

SC just changed our law to where you can put a pistol just about anywhere inside your vehicle.

A small 380 auto or maybe a tiny 9mm would probably be better suited in that space unless the revolver was a 22 or something.

Personally I like my Glock 30 but 10 + 1 45acp is a little on the chunky side.

S&W Shield 9mm, hands down.

40cal springfield sub compact always on me and the ar-15 is in a locked rack in back mounted to the passenger side where they have those 2 non useful storage compartments which is guarded by a little mean when told 70lbs GS

You know, these threads are always interesting.

I am all for owning and carrying weapons.

I live in a country were carry is both a gift and a curse. Threats are everywhere and since they're the ones looking for you and not the other way around, they have the element of surprise. This means that when you have to pull the gun, the bad guys already have their itchy finger on the trigger. Very sketchy stuff. So the question arises: pull out and shoot immediately, of leave the gun well hidden and pray.

For those who say come out with guns blazing, think about the serious consequences this might bring, and how quickly it can go south if the slightest hesitation or mistake occurs.

In these threads I wonder, why would you carry a weapon which will not be in the easiest place you can reach it? Sure you can store it in a safe or in the glovebox or wherever you can hide it when you leave the vehicle. But if you're concerned about carrying it for defensive purposes, you need to have the gun on you. At the very least leave it a top the shifter console for example, where you don't need to open anything or reach around any objects to get to it.

Also, i'm not troubled by discussing this on the web, but you shouldn't be giving away ideas or clues as to where you live and where you are concealing your weapon, don't you think??

Just a little food for thought,

Luis

Im pretty sure its safe to say the chances of someone seeing a thread on concealed weapons and actually being able to find a person and rob them is slim to none. Thieves look for easy scores rather than working for it by scouring the truck forums and actually doing research to find that certain person. Honest folks aren't going to steal from another therefore there is nothing to worry about

Hell if someone did that much research to rob me let alone find me then you earned the gun take it as a reward. good luck there's 2.7 million people in chicago alone im one of those 2.7 somewhere in the 11,000 square miles of land

I don't carry anything less than a 38 special, 380's are useless IMHO :-).
Personally, I wouldn't want to get shot by anything, but I'm open to being proved wrong.

Tell ya what, Doug, get a buddy, a video camera and a 380 anything. Shoot yourself in the foot while your buddy videos it to prove to us how useless 380s are. Better yet, use a .22 and give us definitive proof why anything smaller than a .38 is a useless round.

p.s. New Mexico treats your car like your house. Anything, anywhere, concealed, loaded, etc. No permit needed.

agreed.

I think the .380 is a great round, for its intended use.

smallest i would own is a 9mm.. of course anything would hurt, but you need stopping power. Especially if somebody is drugged up.

but i personally carry a 40 cal s&w m&p compact

I wouldn't underestimate the .22 my 10 years as a medic i saw enough .22 holes in people that didn't make it because it enters and bounces around inside causing a slow painful death after tearing up a lot of organs inside.

Stopping power is a myth. There have been many documented cases of people getting a magazine full of .45s and keep coming or getting hit with a .22 and dropping on the spot.

Recently, there was the case of the lady who unloaded 5 rounds of .38 special into a burglar's face. She called 911 and ordered him to lay face down until the police arrived. I can't remember if he died, but the point is he laid down voluntarily, not because he was shot in the face.

agree on both, we've all heard that a .22 can bounce around in your body through organs etc, and of a drugged up guy getting a mag of .45 unloaded in him and still coming at you. But i still wouldnt carry anything under a 9mm.. preferably a 40 cal... If somebody is still gonna come at me with a mag of black talons or hollow points in their chest, then that is one bad azz mofo.

Stopping power is not necessarily a myth but it does work in conjunction with shot placement which is FAR more important than anything else. A 38 to the face is unlikely to kill you unless it enters into the the fatal diamond portion of your face. They like several lower velocity rounds will be redirected around bone sometimes. I have seen only 1 person survive that has been shit by our agency with our .45+p golden saber rounds and he was hit 4 times and NONE were vital areas but he still went down. I've seen people riddled with with bullets that kept going and people with 1 round that have been DRT. The basic as are smaller rounds tend to move faster and penetrate deeper but the larger usually slower rounds tend to transfer more energy into what they hit (stopping power).

A .22 will kill you just as fast as ANY round but if knockdown power were a complete myth than why wouldn't law enforcement and military agencies be carrying .22's? They damn sure don't carry .40 and up cause they're cheaper. None of that really matters though cause weather it's a bus or Volkswagen I still don't want to get hit buy a car and the same goes for a damn bullet. I'm pretty sure the largest majority of folks here would agree.

Carry what your most comfortable with and able to conceal. It's a lot harder to conceal a .45 than a .380 but make sure your proficient with whatever it is because in the end that is most likely what will save your life if you need it not the size of the bullet.

As you can tell from my name I work in the Government bed and breakfast division. I have seen inmates shot with every thing from 25 acp up to a guy that was gut shot with a 12 gauge. The key to stopping the threat with one shot is to shut down the central nervous system, baring the once in a life time shot of a pass through that severs the spinal cord, it is going to boil down to how fast the bad guy leaks out. I have seen an inmate that was shot 4 times with a 40 cal left to right pass through of his upper body up walking around fine 6 months later. On the other hand I have also seen one that was shot in the back with a .22 mag derringer that is in a wheel chair and shitting in a bag. The.45 just makes a mess of people with good ammo but without proper shot placement it wont matter what you shoot. As far as CCW goes in a vehicle the easiest way I have found is with a clip on cross draw holster with my t-shirt hanging over it. I personally carry a Glock 19 off duty strong side behind the hip with 124 grain speer gold dot +p (Agency Issued). No matter what you carry be mindful of how long it will take to draw that weapon. Lugeto has a point about the bad guy will already have his weapon out and ready. Maybe the best plan is to decide what you are willing to do to escape the situation rather than stand and fight but if you are presented with no choice be certain of your draw with no hesitation and employ the weapon with extreme accuracy. You must remember that fine motor skills go right out the window so any holster that has small snaps may not be the best choice. Getting off my soap box now but one last thought if you carry a gun for protection how ever much shooting you are doing double it. I have been shooting for 35 years doing small club shoots and for the last 15 training with my Department and even occasionally during high stress scenarios I will still fumble with the locks on my duty gear. So practice practice and practice some more.
