There are a few threads about this I think. IIRC there aren't a lot of options besides sticking the gun in a door/console/glovebox or bolting a formed ABS holster onto a somewhere panel.
If other options are out there I guess people are keeping to themselves so no one steals theirs.
edit - I didn't think about carrying on you, I'm not in a position where I can do that most of the time so I just assumed in the 4Runner.

Just be aware of your state laws. In Ohio, you must have it on your person, you can't conceal it in the vehicle. I use a belly pouch which allows you to quickly take it off and leave it behind. (If you leave it behind, throw a quick tripper lock on and make sure it's not visible). It's also the only way I can find to conceal carry in the summer with light clothing. I don't carry anything less than a 38 special, 380's are useless IMHO

Personally, a Glock 26 in a Crossbreed Supertuck.
If you would like to have it readily available in your vehicle but cannot carry it the best solution I've seen is to mount a paddle holster to the drivers side of the center console. However, DO NOT leave it there when you exit the vehicle, it's in plain sight and not very secure.
Also, I've heard of people getting slim lock boxes and bolting them to the floor under the seats. You won't be able to get to it very easily though.

Where do you guys live that you NEED to carry???
I'm NOT against anyone carrying...But I'm glad I don't live in an area where I feel so threatened that I need a weapon to protect myself and my family. I use to when I lived in NY....so I moved to NH...Laws here in NH are pretty lax compared to NY, but Never felt threatened enough.

These threads always boggle my mind, I can't believe people walk around with handguns everyday. Up here the checklist out the front door is Smartphone, keys, wallet. It's just so odd to imagine people need to carry guns around like it's the Wild West.

My daily carry is a DAO 220. It's my favorite gun I've ever owned.
They don't need. They want, and in America they have that right.
My father was at one point one of the nation's largest private firearm collectors. He was also a lifelong cop, swat team, FBI sniper trained. Retired, moved to MT; realized he didn't like doing nothing... started working part time deputy. Ran for Sheriff, won. Just won re-election last November. I personally own a very nice collection of antiques and not antique firearms. Many items, including a Revolutionary War Brown Bess Smooth Bore Musket, an Original Colt Peacemaker, as well as several umberto reproductions (to actually shoot, you won't risk an original peacemaker).
I have and own many handguns. I have an original 1911A Colt 45; one of the most fantastic firearms ever produced.
So I hope this gives what I am about to say some cred. I have never considered carrying a firearm full time. I am from TN and do not have a carry permit, never got around to it. Moved to D.C., and have several of my pieces here (legally). It is now legal to own handguns in the city.
D.C. is a large city, with crime, like any large city. And I have never thought about being able to carry in my car.
To each their own. I know tons of people who love the power of it and those that legitimately want to protect themselves. It is a mindset. I don't care if people do, growing up around guns, I am not fazed by them; like many. What does irritate me, however, is those certain people that are just complete *******s about it. As with anything else, the teenager in his parents bought fast car or the ******* hunter; put a loaded firearm in some peoples hands and they just become power crazy idiots.
Anyway. Be safe and be responsible. Never leave it in your car, and if you do, don't ***** when it gets stolen. Owning a firearm is a right AND A RESPONSIBILITY. It is your responsibility to ensure it is kept safe and secure.
Anyway. I am more attracted to firearms for the history of them. Probably like my father.

To be honest the area where I work has really gone done hill and there are A-hole people are all over the place. I would love nothing more than to not feel like I need to carry but when I personally have police friends that tell me I'd be a fool not to carry than I kinda take their word for it. My wife and I have considered moving but our home is worth much less than I could sell it for so we are kinda stuck.

Well, we live in a strange/dangerous time. High unemployment rate. Economy is bad. Life savings down the drain.
No longer do we see crime in low-rent areas or break-ins at night. Desparate times lead to desparate measures by people who want to violate other people's property and rights.
Break-ins now occur in good neighborhoods in broad daylight. Robbery occur in the middle of a restaurant on a Friday evening with people around. Church shootings. School shootings. Shootings at family gatherings. You name it.
Part of the reason why i don't drive luxury name cars. Part of the reason why i carry my gun everywhere...along with a small knife. Sad part...i live in a very good neighborhood.
Can you pick a specific time to get robbed or mugged? Can you ask your assilant to stop? Is it as simple as handing over your wallet and the robber moves on?
Like the old saying...better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

I fully understand why people collect firearms, I'd collect them if I could, just because of the history that is involved in them, especially from WWI and II.
Being from Canada though, I just can not fathom people walking around in public with a hangun under their shirt. Seems like it would be stressful to be one of those people that carry hanguns to feel safe.
actually if you guys like weapons and military hardware you should go on YouTube and look up a channel called FPSRussia, he's not actually Russian, he's a former video game commentator for Call Of Duty but he's also a huge gun collector. Anyways, he has some cool videos on there with some weaponry that I had no idea was obtainable to civilians. THAT also boggles my mind about the U.S. I mean, he drives an APC (I think) into the McDonalds drive through.

Why? I work in policy analysis and have a graduate degree in policy, including analytic research.
BULL****! Almost every single marker we have continues to show crime falling markedly since the 1980's.
Example: LA - Crime has fallen 6% since 2006 and more than 50% since the 1980's (the Crack epidemic).
NY, has seen a continued decline across every level in crime since the 1980's.
I could go on, but I won't kill you with math. You continue to use the same tired and perpetually bantered about argument, which simply does not hold water.
At the same time, over the past 20 years, that crime has show an almost continuous decline all across the country, gun ownership per capita continues to fall.
Therefore, I can tell you, there appears to be no correlation between individual gun ownership and crime.
Now. Look, I defend you right to carry. But what doesn't help the movement to support freedom to bear arms is using bull**** arguments. I work for a GOP member for Congress and I see/hear this daily. What you just said is usually told, almost word for word, by gun rights supporters on a daily basis. Then, they wonder why no one believes them and wants to take their guns away.
If you premise your argument on KNOWN fallacies, and refuse to accept you are selling bull****, people simply stop seeing your point of view as valid.
Instead of continuing to spout bull****, lets get back to the whole point of America and the Bill of Rights. Freedom. Freedom from Government intrusion. I collect, care for and love to study firearms. It isn't about crime control, because it isn't.
In the Wild West, when most people carried guns, CRIME WAS exponentially WORSE per capita. Private ownership of guns, does not decrease crime. Nor does in INCREASE.
What decreases crime is an effective police force. The decrease in crime the Nation over is closely associated to improvements in an area's policing force. Pay your cops well, give them a nice budget, and you will see a decrease in crime.

Really? Are you joking? The problem in Katrina wasn't the number of firearms, and that not ENOUGH people had them; it was the complete breakdown of policing ability caused by an extreme circumstance. I know John Wayne movies convince people that carrying a gun solves everything, but it doesn't.
People banded together and created government, including police, to escape the dangers of anarchy. Katrina caused a momentary lapse in social order due to an extreme happenstance. The correct move was to as quickly as possible re-establish civic order and policing ability. I get that people have the right to defend themselves, but guns alone don't do anything and usually make it worse.
You need effective policing and social/civic systems. Otherwise you are like Somalia, which has a ton of guns but not much else.
