I have a good friend who's a retired Cop from NYC....Worked mainly in the Bronx for most of the 25 years....He had to pull his weapon ONCE in those 25 years. And you've had to pull it twice in 3 years...WOW.

If YOU want to carry....GREAT...Go ahead...But don't come telling other people that it's their responsibility to carry. Responsibility??? Oh PLEASE. I surely don't want some 18yo punk who THINKS he knows how to access a situation start shooting and killing people because he THINKS this person is being attacked. Police who have extensive training have made mistakes and shot and killed an innocent person...and you want just regular untrained citizens to do the same assessments as a trained police officer...I don't think so.

The ONLY problem I have with gun carrying citizens...is that a vast majority have no training what-so-ever in how to use their gun in a life or death situation....THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE. You don't just pull the gun and start shooting. Police go through extensive training in how and when to use their firearm. From what I've read in these posts...most of you sound like reasonable citizens who I don't have a problem with carrying a gun...but I know several people who carry...and if it were up to me a couple them are so brain-challenged I wouldn't allow them to carry a pea-shooter.

A couple of years ago we were having a huge debate in our town about school finance...it was getting very heated...A lot of name calling..couple of jerks started fighting....They stopped the meeting so people could calm down and rescheduled for the following week....Well the following week (I guess people came prepared)....Just before the meeting....a woman who worked for the town came in handing out pamphlets and she tripped and the pamphlets hit the floor very loudly.....11 individuals pulled their concealed weapons....2 actually fired....LUCKILY no one was shot. The 2 brain-trusts were arrested....now no one is allowed to bring a weapon into these meetings (which should have been the law in the first place).

serious bodily injury, death or sexual abuse. allow the use of deadly force.

What state to you live in?? That's NOT the law where I live.

At the risk of attempting to answer the original question...I have found that it is relatively easy to velcro a DeSantis Nemesis holster to the inside of the console glove box. After you have accomplished that, insert pistol of choice. The KelTec P3AT works well as does the Ruger LCP. Other options abound.

I only meant that if your state has approved you as a stable citizen {being liscenced}, like myself, never arrested, never in handcuffs and only a few triffic citations. I did an 8 hr class on the rules and a 4 hr shooting test and planted 96 out 100 rounds on a pretty techincal course. plus I spend 1 day a month at the shooting range ensuring i'm a better shot than the bad guy.

Thats as ignorant as people can be, no deadly weapon in site and people start shooting? again, properly trained individuals with no record of crime or use of legal or illigal narcotics. Around here schools are a NO NO for guns. Yes I follow the rules.

TBH I was somewhat amazed at how easy it was for me to get a CCW. Keep in mind that they run (so I'm told) 2 GBI and 1 FBI baclground check along with background check for mental or drug problems. Having said that, I along with my wife sought out training on our own and we shoot on a regular basis. I'm actually trying to get into IDPA shooting to hone my skills, but where they hold the training/comps/games is pretty far from me. I still plan on getting into somekind of competition.

For those that dont carry, or dont understand why people carry or whatever. The people that I know that carry, myself included are not people looking for trouble or have a paranoid state of mind. It didnt take long before carrying a gun is like wearing a watch, its just part of what you do everyday and thats that.
 
As an LEO, I respect the rights of citizens to bear arms. My wife has a gun for personal protection.

To answer the original question where are you talking about concealing the firearm, on your body or in the car? For concealment on my body I carry a inside the waistband holster on my dominant side. Commonality in training for dominant side draws. In my vehicle, I carry one on me and one under the steering column for ease of access.

You cant stop random from happening to you. The driving situation for the chl in Texas, was the lubys shooting. There wasn't a single person sitting in that restaurant that morning. Thinking to themselves, this isn't a dark alley in the bad part of town. I should leave before that deranged psychopath gets here. Crashes his truck into the front window, and starts shooting people.
Granted that random event occurs less than once in some ones life. Much like rape, home invasions, and armed robbery. Life is random, that stuff can occur on your best day. How ever if that one situation ever occurs. I'm prepared, i'm not a cowboy. I value life, i pray i never have to use my weapon. I don't insert myself into situations because i ccw. I don't ccw because I'm afraid or scared to walk down the street. Its vigilance, not fear.
I ccw for that situation, when uncontrollable. Some psychopath inserts his depreciated value of my life, in the moment for his shallow need. And in that moment. I want to know, that i did everything, legally afforded to me. For my friends, family and loved ones, to continue to have me in their life. Because I'm one of the good guys.
 
This is definitely one of those polarizing issues. Those that want guns can't understand why people that don't can't understand the want/need to have them. Those that don't want/need them can't understand why you would.

I have a CCW permit in Indiana. The process is laughably and insultingly simple. I like the fact that I understand and know how to use my weapon if it ever came to it. I try very hard to be sensitive to those that find guns themselves disturbing and do not advertise that I am armed, 90% of my day.

So, why do I carry? I have never had a personal confrontation where my life is in danger. For me, it really is as simple as being prepared. I carry my Kimber Pro Carry .45ACP in a Maxpedition Kodiak sling-style bag. I also carry non-everyday items like water-purification tablets, several different ways to make fire, emergency blanket, tools, a flashlight, para-cord, etc. I do not advertise those items either (well, I guess I just did, but then you aren't going to bump into me going to the grocery store tonight).

Am I paranoid? Perhaps slightly ;). Am I ready for a wider variety of scenarios than the average person? Most definitely.

Back to the original question. I wouldn't have a permanent location of handgun storage in my 'Runner. As has been noted, that is borderline negligent. Keep your handguns on your person, under your control.
 
There are people like me who don't need a gun or want a gun..but understand that there are people and places where guns are needed and wanted. And I have no problem with that.

Some people THINK they need a gun. It makes them feel important. They're little punks who are afraid of their own shadow. So they feel the only way they can feel like a man is to carry a gun. Those are the ones that scare me. One of my son's friends dad was like that....He was bragging all the time about his guns and how safe he felt...My son was NEVER allowed to go over to this kids house. I have no idea what he was afraid of...nice house..nice neighborhood...It's not like there were crack houses anywhere near where he lived.

My EDC is a G17 or Ruger LCR. I also carry the G17 at work. Since I'm at work, I'll post a pic of my gear. It's missing the LCR though...

I tote and I vote, and i do both religously.

one of my favorite features on the 4runner is the little extra hidden cubby in the glove box.. its like it was made to put a pistol in there..
