Concerned with DAC and ATRAC

I took my new 4Runner for a little spin in the woods today just to make sure that 4LO and DAC are in working order.

While descending a wet, leaf covered dirt road in 4LO and low gear with DAC on, the front end began to make a very loud noise. I imagine this was the ATRAC kicking in, but I am not sure.

It sort of sounded like the noise and vibration from the ABS system that I am familiar with from other vehicles; however, it was MUCH louder, with a MUCH more pronounced vibration.

Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my system?

That is perfectly normal. DAC uses the ABS system to keep you at 5MPH while descending. ATRAC sounds the same when you are trying to muddle through some sludge. They both use your braking system.

It is a little disconcerning the first time you experience it but gets easier over time.
