concerning Lexus gx 460 (no response on their forum)

Hello ,i am writing this in 4 runner forum because i posted this a week ago on gx forum and no one responded.The engines are almost the same so maybe you'll give me some idea on what might cause the issue.





Close friend of mine is a lexus gx 460 owner and he ran into a problem which he is not able to take care of himself,so he called me to help him so i could ask much more knowladgeble people about his problem.



His radiator fan works non stop and it is very loud and it turns heads when he is in traffic.Usually on other cars it starts working from time to time when it needs to but his is doing it nonstop..



What are the possible issues with it if anyone can tell .....

assuming these aren't electric fans but instead a clutch style fan, it may be time to replace it. you can get away with replacing the internal fluid but it takes a day or so just to drain it but its much cheaper than buying the whole unit.

I have the V6. But I had to change out my clutch fan. Brought it to Toyota for an oil change. Complained about a noise. Mechanic said my clutch fan wasnt shutting off. Which I'm sure is related to the V8. Quite confident it's a mechanical not electric fan. Electric fans tend to be on fwd cars. See if you see a leak anywhere. I didn't. But replaced it myself along with my serpintene belt. They wanted like 450 or so. I bough the fan for 139 I think.

Yep,clutch fan it is....he changed it today,it works as it should.thank you all for the input....i appreciate it.
