the rear diff on the locker and non-locker versions are all 8", yes its a toyota part.

RPM depends on gear ratio. I dont remember what I did at 75 because I never hit 75.

To check ratio, jack up the rear tires, put truck in neutral, rotate the tires exactly 1 rotation and count how many times the driveshaft turns. thats your ratio.

The 4runner diff is a fully open diff, no LSD here. On the locker equipped diffs, it turns it into a spool when activated. Strictly for offroad use.
If the 4runner doesnt have a locking diff then all you have is an open diff.

OK I’m starting to understand what a E locker is, it electricalley locks the hubs.
Where back in the olden days you would have to get out of the vehical and
Lock the hubs w/ you’r hands.

So if I see this piece (circled) on the 3rd member there will be a switch on the dash
For E lock?will there be a E locker on front and rear diff.? Doe’s this switch have any safety precautions to prevent it from accidentally turning on?

Are you sure the 3rd member is made by Toyota? I was actualley planning on reducing the gear ratio from what probablley is 4:10-4:30 down to around 3:42 (I'm not planning on off roading this will be a dedicated tow vehical 300 mile trips from Atlanta, GA to the Gulf of Mexico and back).

I see how to pump fluid into the rear end how is it drained (I see what appears to be a drain however it’s located in the middle of the back of diff. case) and is this a synthetic 90 weight? Also what type of engine oil doe’s the 3rd gen use?

how well did the T4R tow the boat?

I looked at you’r album very impressive T4R that metal bumper makes it look like a little tank, minus the bumper you’rs looks exactly like the T4R I’m concidering so.

Is this 2000 T4R a highlander sport?
It’s silver/cloth seats/5 star wheels (black)/ 4x4/sunroof/painted bumpers 5 speed manuel trans.

There isn’t a roof rack.

However the fender flares appear different than the green T4R highlander sport in the sticky and there isn’t a TRD sticker on the rear fenders.

So w/out the window sticker is there another way to verify this is a highlander sport
Maybe though the VIN?

why do the images at T4R.org come out half assed?

Actually no it has nothing to do with the hubs. It locks the differential. Just google a differential lock, its easier than trying to explain what one is.

Its also clear to me that you did not read the buyers guide that was linked to you in the first page, http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/82033-3rd-gen-4runner-buyers-guide.html. Read that, it answers most of your questions.

Yes that object is the Locker actuator.

As said before, 3rd gens suck for towing. Get something with a V8 if you're gonna tow a lot.

I just read that AC airconditioning is optionale w/ the 3rd gen so doe's this engine appear to have a AC compressor?

The air compressor is on the bottom of the passenger side of the engine below the power steering pump. That looks to be one of the metal AC hard lines behind the PS reservoir in the picture.

1.can anyone buy a 3rd gen FOB and program it themselves or must a dealer do the programming?

2.do the 3rd gens have keys w/ a chip in them for like a anti theft sys.? if yes can the anti theft sys. be bypassed?

3. are 3rd gen keys expensive to duplicate?

There are 2 metal lines that have a rubber section at the AC compressor. You can't see both of them in your picture.

If the th 4runner had the option, you can buy a FOB and program it yourself. If the 4runner never came with it, then a FOB won't work.

The Limited models are the only ones with the transponder in the key. It can be bypassed with an aftermarket alarm module.

I had an original Toyota key made for mine from the VIN code for $12 or $14 at the dealership.
