Confused about tire pressure

I have a 2004 4Runner SR5 V6 4x2.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the manual says that 22 PSI is the recommened tire pressure for this vehicle.

Well, I've been reading around this forum and I think the average tire pressure is in the high 20s, low 30s.

So what's the deal? Thing is, my low tire pressure light has been turning on and off for the past month or so. I don't know if I should take it to the dealer or just inflate the tires.

The recommended tire pressure for your vehicle will be on a sticker on the drivers door or door jamb.

My 01 V6 4x2 says that the recommended pressure is 29psi on the door jamb, both front and back.

I think 22 psi is way too low. I would think the tires would over heat on long hot trips. Maybe the manual says to lower the psi for use in off road conditions? By the way, I run 32 psi in all 4 tires, instead of 29 psi.
