Confused About VSC Options

It looks like the SR5 has Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) *AND* Downhill Assist Control (DAC) while the TE only has Downhill Assist Control (DAC). Why doesn't the TE have the same VSC options as the SR5?

How do you turn on and off KDSS? Do you have to be in 4WD hi or low?

KDSS cannot be turned on or off...it works all the time. There is a hydraulic cylinder that is linked to the front and another linked to the rear sway bars. If any individual wheel needs more travel the cylinder opens up and the sway bar is essentially dis-engaged allowing that wheel to travel. This function can happen at high or low speed, with 4hi, 4lo or 2wd. It is part of the sway bars and should be hydraulic only. I'm pretty sure there is no electronics associated with it.

KDSS rocks. If you have the system, try going over a standard curb, and it is amazing how much it sucks things up. On the trail it really works to keep the rig level.

So the SR5 has better/more VSC features than the more expensive TE?

If you need Hill Start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control you really should not be driving off the pavement to begin with.

All models have Hill Start Assist Control. The SR5 has Downhill Assist Control, but the Trail has the more variable Crawl Control instead.

VSC (vehicle stabilty control) and DAC / HAC are totally seperate of each other.

"Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control."

Say you are going around a corner in the snow in 2wd, the back end of your 4R tries to swing out on you, the VSC will kick in and control it, not allowing it to swing around. That has nothing to do with downhill or hill assist. ALL of the new 4R have the same VSC.
