Considering 255/85/16 KM2's

Hey guys, I have a set of 285/75/16 KM's on my truck now but they're almost worn out so it'll soon be time to buy a new set of rubber. I've been checking out the 255/85/16 KM2's for a while as my next set, as they are cheaper and more narrow (better for a 7inch wheel) will be running them on either oem split spokes or 5 stars (if I can find a good deal on some) and was wondering since I have a Limited, and this tire/wheel combo is kind of narrow, what size wheel spacers would be ideal to get the wheels sitting about flush with the fenders? Also if anyone wants to chime in on their experience with 255/85/16's that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've seen stock 265's on stock 16" rims with a 1 1/4" wheel spacer's and they sit flush with the Limited fenders up front, and 1/2" past the fenders out the back...just for reference.

I tried spacers and had some issues with my stock wheels (not 5 spoke). My goal was to position the tires to align with the outside of my extended fenders. I ended up switching to DC-2s in order to fit my 231mm Tundra brakes.

Central Overland has quite a bit of experience with KM2s, and I have the 255/85/R16. It is a great size, but...

Three of Central Overland's guides are running KM2s right now. As far as traction in mud and rocks, they are spectacular. We have had some relatively serious issues pertaining to sidewall durability and performance in snow and wet conditions.

I am finishing up my review for these tires, and it will be posted to centraloverland.com sometime next week.

I think Big John said he had some issues with the KM2's and snow. He ended up siping them and found them to be a lot better in the snow.

Thanks Blcktpgsr, 1.25" spacers must do the trick then. This is all still up in the air for me, but have been curious about these tires for some time now.


Also thanks Leary, luckily where I live in VA we don't see a whole lot of snow, most wheeling would be done on mountain trails with rocks/dirt/mud. I'm curious to see your final verdict on the tires and will check it out once your testing is finished!

just put on my 255's and it looks like it could use 1" in the rear and 1.25" in the front to sit perfect.... eventually i will get some spidertrax... i have the maxxis bighorns though and i think they are even skinnier than the km2's. heres a crappy pic i took

I have only wheeled with my Km2's a couple of times and really like them off road. My only problem with them is the winter driving sucks bad unless you sipe them. Getting them siped was $52 at discount, so no real big deal there. If I were to buy another mud tire, I would still consider KM2's again.

Shoke is running 255 km2s with Sr5 flares not the limited search shokes build thread for pics.

Here is my 255's on 8" wheels 4 1/4" back spacing and limited style flares.

The reason you see a slight difference in measurement between the front and rear tires relative to fender, is because there's about 1/4+" of difference in size between the front and rear flares itself...fronts being wider in wheel coverage. Wheel mounting surface width are the same.

If you're planning on getting SpiderTrax, the minimum size spacer they offer is 1.25"..Sitting both fr & rr tires at exactly the same distance to make them flush with the fender means exactly that..getting 2 sets of different size spacers..otherwise it's easily overlooked.

i have sidewall issues with my km2's aswell. they seem to cut pretty easily, and the walls are wearing fast

I heard the axle is 1/2" narrower in the rear too?

I'm debating 255 or 285's... hum.

Really strange that the front has a wider track than the rear but when I put 1 1/4" spacers on mine (with the limited flares) the front tires are now flush with the flares but the rear sit out just beyond the flares. 1" spacers would look a little better on the rear.

I might be mistaken and the rear is wider then the front....

Also, as you ad lift the further the tires move position as well.
