Considering 4th gen

I currently have 3rd generation (1998) 4runner; it runs fine, A/C works, and I love it, but it's getting a little old. It has 209K miles, ripped leather seats, occaisonal drop of oil on the driveway. So I'm considering getting a 4th generation but want to know if the 4th gen's are really any better than my 3rd gen. I drove one the other week and it was fine but maybe a little softer ride and felt a little bigger and that's all I really noticed.
So those that own 4th gen's, are they a worthy upgrade from the 3rd gen's ?
Also, is the sport version any better than the SR5 ?
I don't desire or need 4WD here in FL.
Thanks,
James

V8 makes everything better :)

I personally think the 4th gen is a lot more refined, and the interior is definitely quieter and nicer.

I always felt like 4runners and pickups didn't change the interior much from 89-02, especially the doors. It always bothered me about new tacos and 4runners when I was 15 and looking at them (1999). I've debated selling mine for a 4wd 3rd in the past but just don't think I'd be as happy with the feel.

The sport edition gets the scooped hood, 6 spoke wheels, XREAS suspension, and bigger brakes up front (that can't fit 16" wheels, if those are in your plans). In '06 the SE also got tube steps and tubular roof rack that look better IMO but don't really add much otherwise..

You can't beat the 4th gens for reliability. Definitely agree with the other members above- go with the V8. I also think the XREAS makes a huge difference in handling unless you want to lift.
