Considering a new SR5

Hi, I just joined this forum as it seems to be extremely active as compared to the Edmunds forum.
I have been looking at the 4WD SR5 with the preferred package which lists out at about $38,400.
Can anyone that recently purchased one please share what they paid versus the MSRP? It seems that one dealer in the Chicago area is discounting about 8.5% and I'm just trying to find a comparison to benchmark.

I just did a deal yesterday Friday 5/4, they took off 3000 od msrp and gave me 1500.00 above kbb good trade in.
i will be getting a 2012 4wd sr5 in mag. grey and am getting 3.9% intrest.
I felt it was a good deal, as a friend just bought one a month ago and got same deal at different dealer. play the dealers against each other if you can.
I am in Raleigh, N.C

Great info and there are a number of dealers in my area to play off as I am in no hurry to buy.

another tip
check out a internet salemen too, and see what they knock off.
i went back and looked at the pre paper work
and ts as folllows
4runner is 35,936
im paying 32,537
my trade in,
with fees im getting it 9762.11 b4 the bank loan. and i am getting 3.9% BUT i am going to work on that, as always if you have a high credit score, you can talk down the percentage rate.

You have provided me with great ammo and ideas for my upcoming negotiations. I plan to wait until the last week of the month as well as work through the internet sales team to avoid all of the "showroom drama".

funny story behind this tho.
a guy around corner just got one and told me the deal he got.
on way out to work a deal my check engine light came on, stopped at another dealer to have it checked, and yes a toyota dealer.
talked to the guy i bought my tacoma from and told heim meet or beat and i buy from him.
you know how salemen are, i said thats ok i will go there, and thru out the dealers name, thats all it took.

Flip-er - One question...did they have the color and accessory combination that you wanted on their lot or did they have to get it from another dealer?

funny story behind what they had.
they said they could get what i wanted.
then today said they couldnt.
i went down after work and told them the deal was off, they said ok
2 hrs later they call, they found what i wanted 275 miles away, i told them to get it here tomorrow (tuesday) and we deal
it will be here tomorrow
i wanted 50 state leagel dark glass
carpeted floor mates and black interior
well the spec sheet says black interior BUT the salesmen said it cant be had with black i knew better.
so hopefully tomorrow this time i be in it, other wise may be friday.
hold out for EXCATLY what ya want, dont let them **** ya round.
be willing to walk.
find out what deals they have given.
like i said i went in there not even talking to another dealer yet, and told them this dealer will do it for this, and they met the deal.
only way i knew what the other dealer did was, a friend bought there b4 almost a month ago
 
Bought my 4Runner

Thanks to the advise of all of you I bought a 2012 Limited this week.

I emailed twenty Toyota dealers in the Chicago area and quoted the MSRP and dealer invoice on the package I wanted in my initial email. To my surprise, fourteen dealers responded and I eliminated the five that did respond but refused to provide a quote. I then visited the three best priced dealers for their appraisal of my trade which varied greatly as compared to Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds trade in pricing.

I had planned to buy an SR5 with the premium leather package (best offer was $34,420 on a $38,640 MSRP) but came upon a loaded ($44,700 list) Toyota company executive 4 month old unit with 8,000 miles that ended up costing me $1500 more than the best deal I had on the new SR5.

Really enjoying my new 4Runner!!!
