Hey whats going on. I'm 28 years old, and Love Nashville but im looking for something different. Maybe not permanent, but my travelling bone has been itching alot lately. While im still young I wanna travel the country. I've had buddies that have done work in Co, have had customers that moved here from there, and everyone speaks pretty highly of it. I'm considering Co for a few reasons. #1 Pot is Legal. It might sound silly to move halfway across the country to get high, but it's tempting to think about living somewhere that i dont have to worry about shady dealers, overzealous cops, and the hassles of living somewhere that isnt pot friendly. Not to mention the culture that comes along with it, and the like minded people involved. I'm not tryin to kick it with abunch of dred locked stoners, but it'd be nice to be around fellow reefers. #2 is the outdoors aspect. Lots of different terrains I would imagine give me lots of options as far as outdoor activities. I love the outdoors. Camping, canoeing, off roading of course, fishing, hunting etc... Count me in. #3 is I just wanna experience somewhere different. I've seen a few people on here that live in Colorado, and have done some research as far as where to live but i'd like input from people who live or have lived in Co. I dont wanna have to drive an hour to the gas station, but I dont wanna live in downtown Denver. Any suggestions are much appreciated. And of course the Runner would be my cross country hauler!
Considering moving to Colorado, opinions?

You are likely to be disappointed by your #1 priority. It is legal here, but it isn't Amsterdam - there are no legal dispensaries except for medical.
As to where you want to live, you should check out the whole state (or at least the western half) for yourself, and will depend on what you do for income.

Thanks for the heads up about my #1 priority Jeremy. I've been reading about Amendment 64. As long as it sticks, Jan 1 2014 it should be legal for anyone over the age of 21. I reckon we'll find out on what could be a very happy happy happy new years in Co :bigok: As far as work, I've got a few options. Welder/fabricator/machinist for about 7 years, cooked in kitchens a couple years, got some experience turning wrenches, hell I even killed bugs for Orkin for almost 2 years. I would imagine I could find somewhere to work. Its looking like the west would be a little more favorable for what I want to do Jeremy. Thanks for the info Ron! Weathering a bad economy is never a bad thing. I'm not above sweeping floors, and require little more than a roof and food, im not too picky. Living in a horse trailer camper right now until I finish the shack on my property. A change of scenery would be nice, and access to some badass off roading would be even nicer. Farther west I get the closer to Moab I get right?

This was one of my major concerns with amendment 64. It better bring in a boat load of money otherwise we are just going to have a bunch of people moving to our state because it's legal. Not saying that you are not welcome, just sucks that it actually plays such a large factor in so many people's decisions. Have you looked at Washington? lol. The Littleton/Cenntenial area is nice, but you might be better off in Boulder...

The town I'm near tries to have a marajuana fest and unofficially "marajuana capital of the world". My personal doctor got in a bunch of trouble as being on the top 10 list of doctors prescribing medical marajuana too... Though I don't do it

Like many things, any stereotype falls far short of reality. There are "stoners", people who toke every now and again or every day in every area of your life. Your boss / employees. Yours, or your kids teachers. Your CPA.
I do understand you concern about the legality of pot impacting your population.
On the topic of the original post; I was born and raised in the Rockies and lived in CO for a time. If you can live outside the cities and not in the flatlands, there are few places more beautiful.

I live in the proposed 51st state of "North Colorado" lol. Probably not an area that would match up with your priorities at all but I love it.
I work in Fort Collins which, like Boulder, is rather pot friendly and beautiful for that matter.
all in all I hope you find what you are looking for, it's a beautiful state.
I pay my bills, have a good job, i'm active in my community, and dont bother anyone. Southern Comfort is whats responsible for the irresponsible things ive done :tape2: I dont wann grow it, sell it, and if you we're behind me in line at the gas station you wouldnt have any idea I smoked it. I dont wake up in the morning, take a bong rip, put on a bob marley shirt and a flat billed hat and cruise down the road jammin Sublime....well sometimes i jam Sublime, but who doesnt.
Anyways, I can understand your concern. A few years back TN started issuing DL's to people without SS numbers. Talk about a clusterf*ck. You can imagine the influx of people we had in a very short amount of time. But it hasnt been a bad thing. A little more traffic, a few more taxes to help the people that came. But they're good people. Regardless, i'm not considering Colorado for that single reason. It is a big plus, but its also a beautiful state. I wouldnt move to Oklahoma if they legalized it. No offense to anyone from Ok, just not my cup of tea.

I have been in Colorado for 15 years and I love it. There isn't really any downside I can throw out there to you but I have a couple comments. I moved out here at about your age for work. On that note make sure you have a job before you get here. Unemployment is an issue everywhere but here it's different for this one reason. Basicly everyone wants to move here for the same reason you do so therefore there aren't a whole bunch of jobs to be had. As far as work and play goes just a thought. (I have no idea what your plans are so take this with a grain of salt.) Lot's of people move here to live in the mountains so they can play in the mountains. Unfortunately most of us need to be employed to afford to live here and do what we want to do. As a for instance if you love to ski, you have to work like a dog during ski season making it difficult to spend a lot of time skiing.
As far as the pot thing goes these are my thoughts. Pot is not legal to own, or use, in the United States according to the Federal Government. The current situation where a few states have legalized medical and or recreational marijuana use is in conflict with the Federal Laws which are the bottom line period. The Federal government is in the process of "evaluating" what it will do about these renegade states who have legalized pot. Who knows what the results will be but that's hardly a reason to move. As well most of the municipalities in Colorado are either disallowing recreational marijuana sales or trying to figure out ways to regulate, tax, and cash in on your marijuana use. Colorado could easily become the most expensive place in the United States to legally smoke pot. Lastly, legalizing marijuana runs the risk of destroying large companies desire to locate themselves in Colorado. What employer wants to deal with a bunch of stoned employees? Or ask it's executives to move somewhere that has a "pot head" culture. Just my $.02. I now lay myself out to be railed for expressing my thoughts.
On another note if you get out here look me up and let's do some wheeling! Just be straight if we go, I don't rely on high or drunk people to pull me out

Colorado is cool. We also have a great microbrew culture. May as well legalize MJ if we're gonna legalize (glorify?) booze.
We do have some laws about high capacity clips but none of the hunters, sportsmen I know have .20-06 or .30-06 rifles that use those, so we don't really care. We generally use single shot rifles. Ruger #1 is a nice all purpose. Not trying to turn this into one of those threads though.
There are a lot of nice places to live all along the front range, but it's getting more expensive. FYI.
And yeah, just be smart. If you're going canoeing, 4 wheeling, hunting, hiking, driving whatever, leave the booze and smoke for later.
