considering trading my 4runner

thinking about getting a tacoma. I've always wanted a truck and I figured, what the heck might as well go for it.

looking in the ball park of a 1997-99 tacoma v6 4x4 5spd.

Thoughts, opinions?

I would not...you have a fairly rare 4runner. Tacoma will not be more capable in its most capable form...and i think that it is a rust bucket from the years that you're looking at. Frame is not fully boxed like it is in the 4runner. I would stick with your 4runner and then get a cheap pickup (for pickup duties).

You've got a pretty sweet 4Runner. You can get a 5x8 or 5x10 used utility trailer cheap. I like the 5x? because they tow easy and with the tailgate down or off they are almost 'free' in terms of MPG. The wider one's wheels hang out so far they have a good bit of drag, especially at highway speeds.

yeah, I really do like my 4runner, unless I get the perfect deal, I won't do it. I dont know about the 4x4 differences, my only wheeling is fire roads and light 4x4ing, so building a rock crawler isn't on my agenda.

when i was 13 my aunt had a red 4x4 5spd taco that I would have lived in if I could, so I've just had a long attraction to tacos.

If I wanted a truck and it would fit my needs better then my 4Runner, I would move on with the truck. Not so sure it would be a Toyota, but I would be looking at them.:keyboard:

I say if it fits your needs better then do it! I have been considering trading my 4runner for a Taco. I go back and forth all the time on it.

It doesn't really fit my needs better by much, if any. I have a bike rack for my mountain bike, and I can throw my stuff in the back of my 4R...a taco would just make it a little easier. I've never been too good at keeping cars, I've been driving for 5 years now (I'm almost 21) and have had 4 cars.

I used to have a 5.7L Tundra and loved having a truck, but things like grocery shopping became a pain in the ass filling up the back seats. I love having my 4runner now so you can have closed storage and have the option to have a utility trailer. Why not buy a $250 pickup truck trailer? You get the best of both worlds.

Ur funny dude! you just ordered all your lift stuff and I went to all that work to get you LC coils and you want to trade it in!??? :wow2:

you cant do that now! :D

and yeah, from what I have read, the Taco from those years is not as good as the 4runner, apparently there were some problems that lots of those tacos had.

plus, you got the diff lock and everything, you dont want to give that up man... unless you want to give it to me! :D

haha i know! I'm 90 percent sure its not happening. I just go back and forth. Stuff like id probably be okay with a stock tacoma, but right now I'm staring in the face of putting ~800 in for a lift and then 700 for 285's in a year.

I think you will find its well worth the investment!

Yeah it is definately an investment. I'm never gettin rid of my runner, I'll be keepin that around til im 90 then pass it down to my kid heh.

Keep it!

haha you guys are pretty persuasive

LOL if I was truly persuasive, I would have already bribed someone to help me fix up my truck, it'll be costing about 3k total. :P

Nah man, but your T4R is sweet dude. If you were to trade it, I'd atleast tell ya to let me buy it if I had the money.

Shoot, keep that thing and you can laugh in the face of Jeep when you make trails around em, when they are still crawlin the same one twice.

:D

I say get a tacoma! Im secretly a taco lover at heart. 1st vehicle was a single cab tacoma and I loved it. Wish I still had it. I love my 4runner but if a nice 4 door taco or maybe even a built ext cab I would probably be trading myself. With either one im sure you will be happy but I dont think you would regret getting a tacoma.

My thing about selling it is twofold.
A. I dont think I can get for it what I would want to get...What do you think it's worth?
B. If i were to buy a tacoma with cash, I'd have to pay taxes on it, but if you trade two cars of "equal" value, you dont pay taxes at the dmv. That could save me ~$1000
