Good bets to make 200,000 miles.

Not just 1 Toyota vehicle was listed, but 7!!!!!

Consumer Reports' "Good bets" for making 200,000 miles: Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Honda Element, Lexus ES, Lexus LS, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Prius, Toyota RAV4.

I always smile when I see Toyota vehicles in these list!!!

I am a little surprised not to see the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry on that list. I always felt they were steady boring, long lasting cars. Also, I was surprised about the Prius being on the list. It is fairly new technology and it has not been out that long. I saw a listing at Craigslist recently for a 98 4Runner for sale with 307,000 miles, now that is what I call amazing.

exactly why i went with Toyota and got a 4Runner

I merged two threads together & I posted some of article. It is interesting to see how Nissan made the "Bad Bets" for making 200,000 miles. I was thinking some of the Land Rover products should of made the second list, maybe.......

All the cars in the magazine's "Good bets" list are manufactured by Honda and Toyota. (One extreme example was not enough to get the Ford Ranger onto the list.) The "Bad bets" are a mixture of European models and two Nissans.

I like the Ford Ranger with 488,000 miles.....wonder how many trannys it been through. :D

I didn't see anywhere in the article where it mentions if it took into consideration for replacement or rebuilding of parts. I believe it is the Chevy commercials where I noticed this. Chevy claims to have the 'longest lasting trucks on the road', but if you look at the small print at the bottom of the screen it says that claim is based on longevity.....so that could mean that it is not taken into consideration whether the owner has rebuilt or replaced any major parts on the vehicle (tranny or engine). To me once one of those dies, you haven't successfully made it to high mileage.

I'm proud that both of my cars made the list!!!! I have a '98 ES300 w/151k miles as well as my 4Runner. I was surprised to see so many Nissan's on the "bad bets" list. No kia's?
 
my buddy's 93 MKIV supra TT just turned 200k a few days ago. it's BPU and he track it and drive it like he steals it. still running strong with 370whp. my old integra was clocking at 250k miles when i sold it for $2000!!! hahahaha.

Figures that there are some German made cars in the Consumer Reports' "Bad bets" for making 200,000 miles list, not to exclude MB, and BMW. German made cars at for the most part, junk.

Humm, I count 3 Hondas on the list. I have owned 2 Hondas and one Acura, still have one with 214,000 miles on it. I have had good luck with them. Why are you so negative about Hondas???
 
Interesting to read some other forums for vehicles on the "Bad Bets" list.
Seems those owners don't care for Consumer Reports very much.
Funny how those forums have posts about how the value of their vehicles
do not hold up as well as other vehicles and how their leases are impacted by that.

How can they wonder why their vehicles are not "Good Bets"???

i had a 2005 honda odyssey and full of recalls and tsb's
i only had it for almost 2 years ill list all the probs i had w/ the ody.

192 miles - door / hatch pull down handle loose / broken
250 miles - Groaning noise when breaking (i thought it was only because of the hot temp (weather) didnt bother to bring it to the dealership.
4732 miles - Passenger side rear sliding door actuator was replaced
7252 Miles - Rear Handle fell off
(Replaced)
14,722 miles - Driver and Passenger slide door panel trim was loose (Replaced)
23,163 Miles - Groaning Noise when braking (replaced pads and resurface rotor) free.. see 250 miles*
28,000 miles - Loud moaning noise from the engine - engine mount failure (replaced)
28,281 - The noise was still there (Loud Moaning noise)
28,281 - Windshield noise
28,928 miles - Drone noise (Front pipe replaced)
28,999 miles - Loud moaning and drone noise (replaced power steering pump)

That's it i traded it in for an 07 4 runner
