Consumer Reports is Ridiculous!

They need to put the crack pipe down and get out of the comparison/testing business.

They rated the Viper 13 out of 14. I'm not a big Viper fan but they need to pull their heads out of their asses.

They rated the Boxter, 650i, SLK350, Z4, Jag XK, SC430, Caddy XLR and even the 350Z better.

They just lost all their credibility in my opinion!

Whats wrong with a 350Z huh For 80k Id rather get a Z06 and put the rest into a H/C package or something. They are ok I guess, a little over rated imo.

The way I see it, half of those cars shouldn't even be in the same category.......


Viper, Z06, and probably the 911 are all race ready, 80% race oriented with minimal "daily driveability" so John Public will buy it and be able to drive it regularly. Comfort really doesn't play a big part and I think this is where CD is knocking these cars.

The rest of that list is more balanced performance/comfort wise.

There is no way you can compare a 510 hp V-10 car with a 298 hp 6 banger (350Z).

The fact that Consumer Reports even puts those cars in the same comparison test to begin with is what saps their credibility in my mind. Sure, they're all 2 door sports cars but you really can't pit a V10 against a V6 and expect much correlation to surface. LOL, where's they MX-5, Solstice, and Sky???

If I want to read a comparison test, I read Car and Driver. At least they seem to pick cars that are somewhat "comparable" for their test. Since I've been reading Car and Driver for a while I can often predict the outcome because everyone is biased and Car and Driver has their favorites.

As far as I'm concerned Consumer Guide is only good for looking up vehicle prices and statistics which is handy when comparing cars when you're looking to buy one.

Even if you perform a comparison test using only statistics and specs you can still stack the results. I think your best bet is to gather as much information from different sources as you can and then using you own God-given intelligence, make the best decision.

For me, the reputation of the local dealership is one of the biggest factors. If they don't have good service or a "shady" reputation then I would'nt buy a car there even if they sell the cars that are rated as the most reliable or best performing.

Like I said earlier everyone is biased so that's my biased opinion. It's good to go on a rant every now and then.
