Continental Crosscontact LX tire

I have the Cross Terrains SUV by Michelin right now and the spare matches, but never used. These are the OEM tires. If I decide to get the Crosscontacts LX mainly because of ratings and cost, do I REALLY need to replace the spare Michelin? I mean if I blow a tire I'll have the warranty through Discount Tire to get a new tire and I'll only be driving on the odd tire for a day or so. They'll be the same size tire, but driving on one different tire could be bad? Never done it before and really don't want to. I guess this is no different than driving on a car spare tire that's much smaller than the OEM's.

IMHO it is really a NON-issue. You would have ZERO problems driving on the spare Michelin with the Crosscontacts, or any other tire of the same size. I have had various cars where I only replaced 2 tires at a time of a different make and never had an issue.

I used my spare on my 04 in the "5 tire rotation" method list in the manual until I replaced 4 of the tires at 32k miles. I just kept the best of the 5 as the spare. I check it everytime I change the oil for pressure, dryrot ect..

I would not spend the extra money to replace the spare. You would be throwing away a prefectly good tire.

I also have been looking at the crosscontacts to replace my current Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on my 04. They currently have 54K on them. I was looking at them for the same reasons you are. Approx $120/ tire verses $150-$190 for others, plus they have a good rating on tirerack.com. Post back after you have them put on and let us know what you think of them.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I'll be sure to post back when I need them, but it's going to be another 10,000 miles I hope. That would put me at 55,000 on the OEM tires and I've never had an alignment! They're wearing very good across and if it were not for the insane cost of the Michelin's I'd get them again.

If you hear of any gas mileage issues with the CrossContacts, let me know. I'd really like to hear from someone who has these tires.
