Continential Cross Contact LX Tires installed

I have been looking for a while. I was torn between the Toyo Open Country H/T and the Continential Cross Contact LX. Both are all season tires geared toward SUVs and light trucks. Both have a "AB" Traction/Temp rated. Toyo has a 60k miles treadwear warranty and Continential has a 65Kmile warranty. Both are very similar. The Toyo was about $30-50 more per tire depending on where I checked. They both were reviewed very well. The Continential was #3 out of 67 tires reviewed on tire rack in the Highway all-season category. In Contrast the Dunflop AT20 is ranked (or just rank) @ #65 out of 67 tires. I can't wait to wear them off of my 08. I am leaning toward the Toyo Open Country A/T for my 08 when the time comes.

This is my 2WD and since I have a 4WD now I wanted to get back to more of a highway tire than the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S was. I got the Goodyears for a steal ($64/tire new takeoffs from a chevy dealer 265/70/17s). I had almost 60k miles on them and was not to the tread wear markers yet but wet weather traction was suffering for about the last 10k miles. Total of 89K on the vehicle. I hope to roll these to 150k and beyond.

Compared to the Wranglers they whisper down the road. The wranglers were cupped and just growled even using the rearward cross rotation every oil change. Taking the fronts to the opposite rear and bringing the rears forward. With all the sipping they should do well in the rain. :bigok:

Did you buy 'em before 11/2? Continental was running a free GPS promo through 11/2. I just installed a set of the CrossContacts last week myself, but went with the H speed rating that only comes in blackwall. I bought about 5-7K earlier than necessary based on my remaining tread depth, to take advantage of the promo offer...tires won't get any cheaper, but the $200 promo might not get renewed again.

Yup!! Already mailed in the paperwork last Friday!! Ya I wasn't to worried about the extra speed rating although you get a AA rated tire. I think the 4Runner Shuts down @ 113MPH anyway. So the 118MPH tire was fine for me. I don't see myself in Germany anytime sone running 110MPH all day long!!!
Part of my 4Runner has been down the Autoban @110 thou. I got my CAI from Vandert another user on the forum and he took it off his 4Runner which he had in germany while in the military.

That would be a very broad statement since from what I can find on www.tirerack.com, Yokohama makes at least 19 different tire that are classed in the Light Truck/SUV Highway all-Season Category. In their online survey of tires the highest ranked Yoko is 6th out of 67 tire in that class. Very Respectable. I have no personal experience with YoKos thou. Below is a link to the survey.

While I've driven in Germany (and France) and it's a blast, I didn't go H rated for high speed driving. I was going with blackwall either way and figured for literally $4 more per tire, the extra bit of heat handling in the H was worth it.
