Continuing my search! 2000 Limited - Opinions/Comments?

The 99 sport I took a look at Sat. was in decent shape but too much rust underneath from the Michigan winters, and had some really nasty damage along the rear bumper, and hatch. Maintenance records were non existent, and I had a generally bad feeling on it. I passed on it and drove home empty handed. I recently have found this-
2000 Limited. 129,000 miles
Timing belt was done at 120,000, new battery, and almost new tires. Father bought truck and sold to his son. Been in their family about 8.5 years as stated in the ad. Looks like only damage cosmetically on truck is some scuffs, scrapes, etc on front fender/bumper. The lower part of the pass side fender flare was knocked off from scraping something and the bumper is scraped. How much to get this small trim piece and can I get it color matched or woudl I have to have it painted? Price is $6,000

I do not want a manual. I've driven Wranglers for a long time, and am more than ready for an automatic. Do you not feel that $6,000 is a fair price, because of the light damage? The Edmunds True market value has it listed at $7200. What would some paint and a new flare piece cost? Thanks for the replies

I've always loved 99-00 Limiteds. If all checks out, sounds like a great deal.

I feel that when there is 90k+ miles that they arent worth $6k+, and their is damage on this one

Was going to offer him $5,000 for the truck If I decide to move on it. I do hate the fact the damage is there. I can't find much online in the way of the fender flare piece.

Do you like it? Then get it. OFfer him 5, cash, and see if he bites.

How's the tranmission? Check the trans fluid, smell for burnt. is it a v6 4wd? does it have the shimmy at the steering wheel at 65-72 mph?


anyways... i wouldn't let a little fender scuff here and there stop me from buying it. i bought one of those nasty 'Michigan" rust buckets and i'm having fun piecing it back together

I guess it depends where you are located. Also, I'd rather take a truck that is 120k with the timing belt, water pump, transmission serviced rather than a 90k truck where you have to dump another $1000 into it.

In my opinion, the 99-00 Limited that have the AWD (multi-mode trans), auto-climate control, and the option of the rear locker is totally worth $6k. 129k is nothing. My Tacoma has 128k and runs like a top. Just take care of the regular maintenance, especially the fluids and oils and you'll see 300k no problem. And no offense meant, but these aren't Land Rovers. I wouldn't touch a 10-year old LR with over 100k miles for $6k. Although they are very sweet vehicles. But I believe Toyota's are just as capable and more reliable at the same time. Which is why if I were looking for a 99-00 Limited, I'd happily pay $6k for this vehicle, pending all checks out. That little bumper dent---who cares? It's an off-road SUV. It's supposed to have battle scars.

OP - Does it have a rear locker? It looks like this -

Small dents and scratches here and there are of no concern to me, and are going to be on a 9 o 10 year old truck. I am just trying to stay away from any noticeable metal damage/major rust/etc. So does anyone know a ballpark price on the corner bumper guard replacement? Contacted owner today and left voicemail. Hopefully I can get there this afternoon and take a look. Thanks so much for all the help and replies guys. Great community of T4R owners here

I don't think you can just replace that part. I believe you will have to buy the whole bumper. But perhaps a local junk yard has a wrecked 4Runner you can scavenge parts from. Also, probably not a priority right now, but I love color matched bumpers and cladding. Green would look pretty slick.

You can buy a new fender flare, and all bumper pieces from Toyota still.

Still haven't heard from the guy today. Maybe he has been at church all day, maybe he is hung over from last night, lol. Left a message that I would like to drive up and see the truck and no reply. Sometimes it is like pulling teeth trying to give someone money for their vehicle, haha
