Converting Limited 5 passenger to 7

I am expecting twins and have one already, and my wife wants to buy a van. I told myself that a van and me are like water and oil. They just don't mix. LOL.

I currently own a 5 seated Limited 2006 and was wondering how easy, or hard it is to convert my 5 passenger to a 7 seater with the third row seat.

I remembered when we were shopping for these 4runners and remember the set up for the 3rd row seating (how it had the bracket on the side and the center hooks to lock the seats down in place just like my old landcruiser). But when I looked at the limited, in the compartment were the brackets should be there is a cubby for storage. Havent' checked if the brackets were underneath though. Felt the center under the rug, and it SHOULD be there? right...

is that all I need to convert the five to seven? or is there more that I left out? What is the best way on doing this conversion?

I can't help a lot with the info but it might be a good idea to PM AlexJet here or on toyota120.com, he is the only one I've seen do the swap.

I didn't want the third seat because it had a different second seat, moved forward. Maybe with babies you can get away without the second seat moved forward, but I think the cargo side panels are different to accomodate the seat brackets and seat belts. I think the interior is different from the doors back. Good luck, this would be a good reason to go for the third seat.

I still keep my wife in a Land Cruiser, only one kid left, but we love the things.

Congrats on the kids!! If you want to go OEM, it's a brutal install. I can't remember where I saw that someone did it, but it involved welding and the such. Here is another option, they look like a decent option:

But man is that intensive! Welding brackets, cutting, grinding, ect. ALOTA work. Why didn't toyota just build them all the same for a 3rd row seat option. Maybe I'll just trade it in for a 7passenger (i love the 4runner's as I own 2 1980's with removable top, and this limited ), or go with the rear jump seat option. Thanks for the link.

Do yourself a favor and suck it up and get the van. You don't need the hassle. Even with 3rd row seating in a 4 runner, it isn't worth it. There just isn't enough room. With twins, you will have a big ass stroller, and double the baby junk to haul around. With a 3rd row you will lose all storage space for the extra kid-junk you have to bring. I know, it is a horrible blow to the ego, but you have to do what is right. Get tinted windows and no on will know you are driving it.

I found this option.. a little cheaper and has a bunch of options just like the little seat.

With space I was thinking of getting one of those thule racks ontop for extra storage for the strollers/whips/ect. Makes me look cooler... Its like having snowboard racks in the middle of summer.....

Nice find! With those storage products that you mount on top of your roof rack, expect a noticeable drop in MPGs. Even the aerodynamic ones. Can't remember where I saw it, but I remember something like 20-30% drop in mileage. It will make you look "cooler" than a mini-van though! If all else fails, SEQUOIA time!!!

Used to get 23-23mpg, now gets 19= about 18% drop

............ that's all I could find, but you get the picture. Can't find where I saw the 30% drop............ I'll find it............ Anyway, if most of your driving is city, then this won't affect the MPG much (of course, depending on how much weight you carry on it)
