Converting over to a locker?

So I found a 2000 4Runner that has a rear locker and wanted to know what all I need to remove from the 4runner to swap over to mine? I have no experience at all with lockers so I need a pretty specific answer. Thanks

easier to swap out the entire rear end!!!!!!!!!!! save you lots of time and aggravation.

I 2nd 410toy.

I bought a third with an e-locker in it and re-sold it because it was just too much of a PITA. You need to weld on metal to your existing carrier, drill and tap the holes and machine it flat. You also have to make up a relay pack. It's a good route if you have the time but not the money but I just decided to spend the extra $300 and get ARBs if I ever get around to adding lockers.

If you get the axle hub to hub it's a lot easier.

i was gonna suggest ARB air lockers.

If the 2000 you found has the locker already then it is an easy swap to jsut swap the entire rear-end. My brother adn i did the E-locker third member in a first gen and it was a total PITA to do the welding and grinding to get it to fit. Remember a Tacoma rear-end will not be a bolt up so it must be the 4Runner rear to be a blolt up. Then the only concern is the gear ratio and making sure it is the same.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm still waiting to hear back from the guy. I have to figure out if its really going to be worth it or not. I have to justify the cost=to my labor=to actual use=to my fiance throwing a fit.....equation first!

BGMAC easier to deal with this while she is still a Fiance' and not a wife. Might be good to break her in to the fact you like to mod and will be spending money on occasion to do so. Just saying..

That time has long pasted, its already been almost 6 years, 5 quads and 10 automobiles..all of which received modification! Its just a matter of whether or not I want to grin and bare it for a week.... or two.
