That is what they call it, but to really get the best results, you want to actually shoot a series of bracketed shots. Most post-HDR effects don't do nearly the same thing.

^ not bad. snow pics are hard to do without getting the highlights all blown out. haha. this is somewhat an attempt to do an hdr. maybe done in raw? it would have turned out better in a real hdr with multiple exposures. but anyways. it is also a bit over saturated.

thats what i thought, at least the legit way to do it anyway, I was reading somnewhere you can actually do it in photshop too? i would think you can just make multiple copies of the image and make them look over exposed and under expsosed etc. i havent looked into it that much yet but its a cool effect for sure

There are definitely ways to do it after the fact, but there really is no close substitute for actually shooting multiple exposures at the time of taking the picture. The post-picture techniques will give it a definitive "cool" look, but it will look manufactured whereas a real HDR shot will still look quite lifelike.

You can't get near HDR without 3 separate exposures. You can trick photoshops auto HDR by taking a single picture and making over and under exposed versions to layer. But when you alter the exposure you're just editing the existing media that was picked up in the original exposure shot, so really just changing the brightness because you can't get more out of your picture than what you started with really, gotta do it from the get go otherwise its just going to look like a chop job

I wish I would have had my tripod and taken the time to set up several exposures. But we were trying to make good time home...I just couldn't pass up snapping a few quick ones.

I wasn't even trying to make it look HDR....I just put the mildest version of the posterization effect on it, and along with over-doing the sky, it kinda gave the HDR feel. I hate the fake HDR effects that some programs have. CS4 doesn't that i know of.

Well, the desired effect I think was successful even without it. It makes me want to drool!

I hardly ever shoot with a tripod. Too lazy!
