Coolant drain and fill. Block drain plugs.

I am planning to do a coolant drain and fill on our 2003 V8 today. How much fluid is in the block. Is draining the block by opening the block drain plugs necessary. Thanks. Phil

When i drained the block not much radiator fluid came out, but that was a V6. Not sure about the V8

The maintenance guide that comes with the owner's manual says to "drain and flush" the cooling system. Is the flush really necessary? If so then using distilled water would probably be best

Edit: I just checked the official repair manual, and it does not mention "flush"
