coolant flush how to

rytard

New member
I'm planning on flushing my radiator fluid this weekend and I've never done this myself before. I know this is a pretty basic procedure, but since I'm new at it, can anyone offer some pointers or things to watch out for? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Well one thing to ask is how old the hoses are and how many miles are on your rig. I usually have got the Prestone flush bottle and drained the antifreeze out in a container to recycle. I like to change my upper and lower hoses every 10 years. I replace my thermostat every time I change the fluid. I think its just good preventive maintenance. I highly recommed getting the factory thermostat. I had an engine overheat and then it was destroyed because of a cheap one. If you do the hoses you probably want to take the front skid plate off to make it easier. The thermostat is very easy to install as well. Again not sure what you have. I have the 3.4. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.
I have a 1997 3.4 liter 4wd limited with 190,000 miles. I've had it since 97,000 and I've never changed the coolant so I figure it's about time.
