Coolant / heater core / rust problem

Hi guys,

I'm new to 4Runners, just bought a '96 SR5, 2WD, automatic.

I noticed before I bought it that the radiator and expansion tank had some rusty residue. I've since ordered a new radiator and tank, but just tonight I noticed that under hard acceleration (or revving in neutral), with the heat on, I can hear this rushing/water flowing/bubbling sound coming from the dash.

I'm thinking that its either
a. air
or b. rusted bits of cooling system

trying to float around the heater core.

I tried my best to bleed the system tonight, with some success. I bled it as much as I could, with the heat on, but its still making the sound.

If I have to replace the heater core, where is it located, behind the dash?

I am going to try a flush this week (hopefully before friday because I'm towing my Miata up to a track day 200 miles away) by backflushing the heater core, and hopefully i'll get the radiator in time.

Any thoughts on this?

Other than this, the car is flawless! Love Toyotas! It's like driving a big Camry (mom's Camry was my first car)

Thanks!
Patrick
