Coolant Overfill

Hola - had a buddy borrow my truck and the reservoir was a bit low. He was filling it while I wasn't looking and he overfilled it to the top of the reservoir, cold - so obviously it's going to get hot and look for a place to go.

Does the reservoir have an overflow valve? Or do I need to siphon it off.

I had to fly out of there so I can't look in the engine bay. Sorry if the question is redundant, i ran a search and found nothing.

siphon it out will work, yes it needs the room to expand, does not have an overflow that I know of

Yeah, grab a turkey baster and suck some out. Easy peasy.

I'm pretty sure there is an overflow for the overflow tank. It has to vent to atmosphere to work. Would be nice if someone can confirm this point.

Yes siphon or turkey baster. And yes, overflow tank has an overflow.

Why not just pull it out and pour some out? It isn't hard to remove.

Anyway though, worst case is some coolant on the ground, there is a vent on the top of the overflow tank.

Or to just be really lazy, leave the overflow cap off and start the engine. It'll push out whatever it does not need as it warms up. Of course, this makes a mess.

And remember, coolant eats the paint off of any part of the body or frame that it collects on. Better to suck it out, but you could drive it, let it overspill, and then promptly wash down the area with water.
