Cooper Discoverer AT3 Tires

Hey everyone,

I have been utilizing the forum for a while now as I bought a 2006 4Runner Limited V8 back in February. The feedback I have received from many of the members of this forum has been nothing short of phenomenal--Thank you to those that do or have contributed!

Anyways, just wanted to post some feedback on the new tires I put on my rig today.

The AT3s are brand new to Cooper and are only just starting to enter the market. I have been reviewing and researching AT Tires for in upwards of 8 months now going back and forth trying to determine which one I was going to replace the OEM Michelin Cross Terrains with.

After doing my research and determining exactly what I wanted, the AT3s were revealed and I made my move. Now enough with the fluffy stuff:

1) Styling: These tires are rugged to the core without being in your face like a Mud Terrain (love those, however not the look and ride I was looking for with this truck). They look absolutely bad to the bone and I haven't been able to stop staring at my truck since earlier this afternoon.

2) Ride: has improved significantly and you just can't not feel safe riding on these tires.

3) Handling: has improved tremendously!! My truck goes EXACTLY where I need it--you can really feel the tires grip upon taking a harder turn and accelerating harder. Braking seems to be shorter as well.

4) Warranty: great--I believe it is 55,000 miles

5) Pricing: Do your homework! I called some place that wanted $265 for my 18 inch wheel... and that was without the mounting and balancing!!! I ended up picking my tires up from Service Tire Truck Center for $172 per P265/60R18 tire--ALL IN. It was a steal in my opinion. They do honest business, free rotations for life of tire and are a Select Cooper Retailer.

I knew I was making the right choices with these tires before I put them on--I have confirmed that I made an absolutely phenomenal investment for the next 55,000 miles in this quality MADE IN THE USA product.

Cooper is not new to the market FYI. I am Running the STT as are a few other people on here for the last few years, Cooper is getting good at mixing rubber compounds and thus giving them a good run at fair priced off road tires.
The ST coopers have been around for... I think about 6 years and are a very good AT tire.

I am also running the Discoverer AT/3, but in a LT 265/70/17 (6 ply) mounted on some FJ 17" x 7.5" wheels. I do like the wider stance that the combo of wheels/tires gives, but I think that I might have 1 bad tire. The right, front wheel/tire has 7.25 ounces of wheel weights on it, and I still am getting slight steering wheel shake at 55- 65 mph. I am going to put that wheel on the rear, and see if I still have the shake. If no shake, then I might have found the problem. I'll report back.

bump.....any 5th gen owners have the at3 tires? Consumer reports just put them #1 for AT. I was leaning towards Firestone Dest AT.....Price looks good on the Coopers

Really like the Cooper tires. Have a set of the new S/T MAXX and I'm really impressed with them. I have heard nothing but great reviews on the AT3 as well. If you want something that does great in most any condition, the AT3 is the way to go. Looking for something that's more of a hybrid MT/AT, then go with the MAXX. I can post some pics of the S/T MAXX if anyone wants to see those.
