Cooper Discoverer HTPs

OK I know these are not for the average 4Runner owner, but I figured there are plenty of 2WD owners that are looking for a good on road tire that won't leave you slipping around in snow or a boat dock. These are fairly new tires from Cooper. These are not the HT/Plus.

I picked these up at Discount tire 2 weeks ago. Discount gave me a $328 warranty credit for my Continentials that were wore out at 35k miles (65K warranty). You gotta love Discount Tire!! All said out the door for 265/70/17s Cooper Discoverer HTPs & LIfetime Balance $339 + a $30 Visa rebate card!!!:biggrin2: It would have been $697 without the warranty credit. The 265/70s were $14 cheaper a tire than the 265/65s. Only difference is 70s are a 115T(2679 lbs) load index and the 65s are a 112T(2469 lbs).

First impressions: They balanced perfectly. Over all ride comfort is improved. They seem to soak up small bumps much better than the continentials. They track well going down the road. First fill up after putting them on I got 17.39MPG. Tires were only on for about Half that tank. I would label myself an agressive driver. I was getting an average of 18.2 with the continentials (265/65s) The coopers are racking up approx. 3% less miles than I am really driving so if you add 3% to 17.39 you get 17.91MPG. Not a huge drop. Current tank is already reading higher on the MPG lieing meter in vehicle, so we will see on this next tank. All above figures are Calculated using the roadtrip app on my iPhone. Real miles driven and number of gallons burnt. MPG meter in the vehicle is usually 2.5 average higher than hand caculated, at least in my case.

Update on first full tank of fuel with the Coopers. My mileage only slightly increased from the previous tank. 17.41 MPG, 326 miles driven uncorrected. Add 3% to the mileage or to the uncorrected MPG and it is virtually the same number, corrected Mileage 336 miles/18.72 Gallons = 17.93 MPG. I was averaging 18.2-18.5 MPG with the smaller Continentials. It is possible the difference is even smaller. With the 265/65s the speedometer would read 1MPH faster than my GPS was indicatiing at 70MPH, hense racking up more miles than I was really driving. With the 265/70s the GPS bounces between 71-72 when the speedometer reads 70. The mileage thing could just be a wash??????? I am probably just over thinking it all and just need the drive the thing and shut up!!!:jump:

I gotta agree with your final assessment, NC--mileage will vary with EVERY trip to some extent, so any difference of less than 2-3 mpg is a moot point. As you said, just get in and enjoy--if the tires work well on the road, that's all that matters.
