Any updates?

Any updates on the s/t maxx decision? I am curious on your impression from a weight perspective? Noticeable difference in driving and mpg?
I haven't gotten any replies from Cooper customer service on my inquiries regarding tire weight on this size...

Check Tread Depot for tire weights. I think they have them for all tires.
 
Thanks, normally good advice. I am a little skeptical of the listed weights on treaddepot.com, hence the emails to Cooper Tire. Here is what Tread Depot has for the s/t maxx:
255/75/17 (load range C) 53 lbs
265/70/17 (load range E). 51 lbs
275/70/17 (load range E). 59 lbs
 
I installed a 3" OME lift with 1" ToyTec diff drop about a month ago. Also had a set of 255/80R17 ST/Maxx's installed. I run them at 35 psi. Here is what I have found so far. There is a bit of rubbing with full lock in reverse. Nothing major. My mileage has dropped 1-2 mpg overall. If you slam on the brakes at speed you'll get a bit of wobble. This is due to the luggy tire pattern and should be expected. I really like this tires for my environment and for future back road driving. I had a set of Cooper 265/75R17 Cooper AT3s on originally before the lift. They were great tires, except on black ice. If icy roads don't occur in your environment then the AT3s may be a better selection. The ST/Maxx's seem to do much better in snow and ice.

Glad to hear you like the maxx's better; I remember your posts of the at3's and the black ice, kinda scary. We get a little ice a couple times a year here, but mostly just lots of snow.

Another interesting thing is the STmaxx in a 255/80/17 is only listed at 32.8".

I've been thinking of running either size on my 4th gen. Good reviews on these tires.

The size of a 255 75 R17 should be as follows:

255mm - Thread width - 255/25.4 = 10.04"
75 - Aspect ratio (sidewall height) - (.75*255)/25.4 = 7.53"
R17 - Rim diameter in inches

For a 265 70 R17 tire:

265mm - 265/25.4 = 10.43"
70 - (.70*265)/25.4 = 7.30"
R17 - 17"

So the first tire should be .46" taller - hope this helps. If this information has already been posted sorry.
 
So I pulled the trigger and purchased a set of ST Maxx's. 275/70R17. If you are on the fence about these, hop off it and get a set. I was back and forth on these or some BFG K02's. I expected some road noise. However, I was amazed at how quiet they are at speed (75/80). For an E rated tire they ride incredibly smooth and quiet. Aside from some heavier pot holes and such I can hardly tell the difference between these and the factory Bridgestones that were replaced. You do experience a little wander, very slight, because of the large rubber blocks you're rolling on. But I've experienced much worse on other tires like these. Overall, I was expecting much worse and was prepared to be ok with it given the purpose of these tires. I can sincerely say I was very surprised at how well these tires behave. I'm not saying anything new as I have read a lot of what I'm posting from others, but I certainly concur with the other reviews posted.
If you like the way these look, don't hesitate and pick up a set. Especially if you get in on the EBay deals on them right now.

I'm pretty sure he chalked them up to 33+ inches tall, which is what they should be. He was confused on Cooper's stated literature as well. I'll try and find the thread, it may have been on a tacoma board.

Just pulled the trigger and bought Cooper ST MAXX 255 / 80R17's from eBay Discount Tire Direct for $606. with the discount. Order two then repeat for $200 off total. I've done a lot of research on tires and this seems to be the go to tire for best "all around" performance. I'm matching it up with my lift which I haven't put on yet because of lack of desired tires. Just fixed that.
 
I've got over 10k on my set of 255/75/17s and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I think you guys will be pretty happy with their overall performance. That's why I got them.

I just mounted the Coopers to my T4R yesterday, so this is the only one I have currently.

All of the miles put on them so far were during ownership of my Jeep Grand.
