Cornfed Lift 4Runners...

This thread is about some details regarding Cornfed Lift Kit for 4th Gen. 4Runners. I've a question for those who running this setup.
After installation and driving for a while with 3" Front + 2" Rear Cornfed Lift, I mentioned that rear end of the truck become very "jumpy". It jumps on every bump, sometimes very hard. At the point of installation I mentioned that after installing rear coil with the spacer, my shock was 1" shorter then its lower mounting point. At first point I was thinking that it might be because of maximum lowering the axle, but now I

I'm researching rear lifts for the 4th generation 4Runners right now and this appears to be a valid issue. Your shock is designed to provide so many inches of travel and by putting a spacer on top of the coil, you are asking your shock to work more.

The Revtek kit includes a longer shock to avoid this, http://revtek.com/product_sel.asp?makeid=4&modelid=10
You can throw on an aftermarket shock with more travel if you want. I was told that the Bilstein 5100s for the Tundra work well or you can go with an OME shock.

The likelihood that you'll blow out your rear shocks are slim. You can safely run spacers in stock shocks w/o any issues at all as shown on various other vehicles. You do run at the upper limits of the shock though so they may wear faster than sitting at stock but it will not go bad in 3 months.

Unfortunately since you have the xreas, you're limited to spacer technology unless you want to remove the system completely.

Although I don't have any spacer technology lift on my 4runner nor have I ever run one of any kind (kind of), I feel that what you are experiencing is normal. Some owners have mentioned that the ride will get harsh with spacers so I believe this is what you are experiencing.

Good luck

I would think that the valving (amount of dampening) in the shock (system) is designed to be progressive. The further the shock is extended (either way) the more dampening. That would explain the increased stiffness/harsh ride with a spacer. The only other explanation would be changing the angles of the suspension components in relation to the springs. The only way to correct it would be to extend or relocate the shock or replace them. It sounds like others have changed the shocks and the problem was resolved.

So if you install the revtek kit on a Sport model you lose XREAS in the rear?? If what you say is true about the shock bottoming out then you can't lift a Sport model without either losing your XREAS or dealing with the problem your running into. That sucks!!!

If you change the rear shocks you will have change the front also, they are hydraulically linked together.

So basically XREAS would be immobilized all together. If i knew the mods on these 4Runners were gonna be such a pain I would've bought the Tacoma. Kind of a buzz kill when you find out the mods you were planning when you bought the vehicle either aren't available or require you to disable what you bouGht the vehicle for in the first place. i'll be honest I was back in forth with which route to go with the truck (lifted with 18s and aggressive tires, or stock height with 18s and standard profile) but I guess this situation kind of rules out one option.

Why can't you still lift it? I mean there is still the Daystar and Cornfed spacer lifts. People have been running that on their SEs for a while now.

Actually yes, because Revtek has rear shocks and you have to disconnect the XREAS system. The system works as following: Left Front connected to Right Rear and Right Front to Left Rear. If you taking rears out, front will be disconnecting. You don't have to change front shock, they just become normal shocks.

Not to be rude but if you did your homework prior to purchasing the 4runner, you would have known that the xreas system (even though it's nice) would be a hinderance if you planning to lift it.

I've said this since the beginning and unfortunately it's just one of those deals. You can easily remove it completely and lift it and then reinstall it back with no ill effects though so atleast you can always sell your 4runner for a higher price :)

Atleast there's still an option to lift the xreas model via spacers.

Good luck

Thanks guys, so it's NORMAL what I have now. I just thought that I might done something wrong when was installing. I've talked to some friends from off-road club and I'll try to fabricate some custom made add-on to Cornfed Lift. I hope this mod will help me resolve this issue. I'll let you know of the progress.

Don't install the Revtek shocks.

I've never read of anyone taking out only the rear X-reas shocks, only the complete system. Won't the rear leak?

Let me get it straight. Revtek Lift kit consist of: front spacers (4), rear shocks and rear coil springs. So you recommend to install front spacers and rear springs, but leave stock shocks.

Sorry, my mistake. This is Revtek Lift Kit: Front Spacers, Rear Spacers and Rear Shocks. No springs. I think I mistaken this kit with OME Lift.

When I bought my 4Runner I was hoping that companies were in the process of developing things like intakes, and other performance goodies (like for the 03-04.) Unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone is stepping up to the plate and most companies are focusing on the other Toyota vehicles. the only reason i mentioned the Tacoma is because there seems to be a rather decent performance parts following for that vehicle. I also know there's a few things out for the Tundra. Just seems 4Runner gets the shaft...

tacoma gets more emphasis because toyota sells more. same with the tundra. If you do a raw comparison of number of vehicle sold, you will notice that the 4runner does not sell as much as the taco.

For the vendor, this means that they have a smaller customer list so thus the push for vehicles w/ more market share. That's why you'll always see chevy/ford stuff come out first because they sell VOLUME of vehicles and that means more customers to go after.

It's all about business and $ unfortunately and we just get the short end of the stick. Just keep your head up and I'm sure others will follow suit.

I've personally been working w/ many of the offroad market to get more products out for the 4runner and it's a slow progress but I'm not quitting. :)

GOod luck!

Was in that business and was actually amazed the parts that were available for vehicles you wouldn't think people would care about. I guess I'll just have to put stuff in my families' 06 Double cab Tundra and keep hoping that the parts becme available for my truck.

I'm surprised .....I've been reading these post's trying to educate myself on the 4R before I buy and I was under the impression there were alot of mod's for the 4R. I guess I was wrong.

Being an outsider (04 Z71 Tahoe 4x4 ) it does seem that the 4R has a pretty loyal following and have been really impressed with the people and wealth of knowledge on this site.

It also seem's like the 4R does not get promoted as much as other vehicle's in the Toy line up. (TV commercial's and such.)

I'm still on a quest to get one , but might have to wait to mid feb.

Actually 4Runner has a lot of upgrades and mods. I even don't have enough money to buy what I want.
