Correct AC Adapter for Impact Wrench

Guys, I know this is not really a 4R related question, but I have DC Impact Wrench (cig lighter) which I keep in my 4R for um..rainy days. I wanted to buy AC adapter to use wrench in my garage and adapter didn't work. It probably has something to do with Wattage. With AC adpater the LED on the Wrench light up but it doesn't work. ( I have tried two adapters so far...no luck... :cry2:
Did you guys use any such adpater? If yes, any particular brand?

Any hint or link would be helpful.

Well, let's see...

the impact works off the 'cig lighter' outlet in your vehicle which means it is 12Vdc (nominal)...

And not sure about the 4Runner specifically, but most cars I've seen have a 30amp fuse for the 'cig lighter'.

So, 30A x 12Vdc = 360Watts. Not to say that your impact wrench is drawing 30amps (more like 15amps or so)...but let's go with a worst case situation...

Therefore, I would think you would need at least a 360Watt AC to DC power converter (inverter changes from DC to AC).

Not sure how much money you want to spend on a converter...but getting a booster pack might be an option...something like (they come in different sizes (amps) and prices and options):

Oh, that's 360Watt output.

I would think you need something like this:

Not sure of exact price, but they aren't 'cheap'.

Isn't the output of cig lighter in center console is 120W? That is what is written on it...:shrug:

Well, I never used mind, so I don't recall.

But if it states 120W...then it has a 10amp (or so) rating...this may be more due to the limits of the wires than the fuse.

I still don't remember what the fuse rating is for the cig lighter on the 4Runner, but on my Jeep it is a 30amp fuse.

So, 360W might be overkill...if the impact wrench works (UNDER LOAD) on the 120W outlet...you could get away with 120W power unit.

Do you have any electrical specs on your impact wrench? If you can determine how much current it needs at max load or its max power rating...you could find an appropriate power converter to match it.

But you mention 'AC adapter'...those little block boxes that come with laptops, radios, modems, ethernet routers, etc.??? No way those will be able to supply enough current...you are probably 'clamping' the output because they are overloaded.
