Correct PIE adapter for a stock 2003 4Runner HU

I am confused as to which is the correct PIE adapter to connect my Garmin GPS with XM Radio to the stock radio. Can anyone direct me to the best website and let me know the correct model to order? Thanks:confused:

Do I need any other parts besides the PIE adapter and the RCA converter cable from Radio Shack? I have the stock radio with only one front loading CD slot.How difficult is it? Does anyone have pictures of their installation?

Thanks for asking this question msanta. So do all stock radios have the input port for a CD changer? I have been looking at converters to use with my Delphi Myfi XM receiver...I wasnt sure if the standard 4R radios had the CD changer port so I was looking at some that connected to the RCS outs of the XM craddle and then connected in line with the antenna. Anybody have any experience with these?

I decided to order the adapter from MyRadioStore and spoke to a nice gentleman named Ralph. He gave my the part number(TOY03-AUX)like you guys said, but told me to contact tech support at PIE to really be sure it was the part, so I did. It was the correct part, since MyRadioStore is located in NY I should have the adapter tomorrow afternoon. Anything I should be aware of that will cause problems during the removal of the head unit and the installation of the adapter? Where do you run the cable through?

Wow, you have take apart all that to get the head unit out? I don't have the navigation system, just the basic unit with one front loading CD slot.
 
It's the same with any of the headunits. It's a piece of cake. Looks intimidating, but not really once you get into it. Just remember what plugs where and don't end up with any extra screws ;):
 
I can't thank you enough guys for all your help with this project. I received the PIE adapter, stopped at RadioShack to get the MonsterCable and just finished installing it. It took me around two hours, I followed all the instructions which made the removal very easy. I found out that it was more challenging unplugging the switches than anything else. I was a little confused since the adapter's instructions say to connect one of the plugs to from the radio to the adapter, which wasn't necessary. There was an empty female connector in back of the radio, the only one that matched one of the connections from the PIE, that's where I plugged it. I tested it before I put everything back and it worked when you switched to CD. Now I just have to find a less conspicuos place to bring out the cable. Right now is on the side of the silver console. I forgot to mention that I hear a humming when I push the mute button on my XM Radio, I don't hear anything when the ipod is plugged in. Is there anything you can do to correct this humming?
 
I don't have an XM unit so I've never experienced the humming. Do you know anyone else with a different XM Unit? Maybe it is just model specific?

I've had an IPOD, Portable DVD Player, Garmin Nuvi 350 and a coworker's MP3 player and no humming experienced.

It is likely you have a differential in your ground loop for your XM unit. I had the same humming/buzzing. I would relocate the ground wire and see if that helps it did for me.
 
The humming comes on when I switch the Garmin 2730 from headphones to line out, which is very strange because the manual says to switch to line out when you connect the unit to a car stereo. The sound is awful when switched to line out, when switched to headphones there is no humming and the sound is crystal clear...don't know why, so I am leaving it like that.:bash:
 
Unfortunately I don't have the JBL system, I just have the cheapest stock unit that the 4runner comes with, the single cd with the 6 speakers. The JBL system in my wife's Avalon sounds great that's the radio I wished I had in the 4Runner.

thats what i had before i got the scion HU. legitemately the best $75 i have spent on my truck. its amazing how good it makes the stock speakers sound. my sister has the JBL system in her 03 and personally i think the scion sounds just as good if not better. thers alot about it here and if you are looking for an easy way to get better sound... do it.

Msanta or sharp4runr,

This is the same base unit I have so I'm thinking about doing the adapter but I have a question about how it functions. If it uses the CD controls to make the input function, do you lose functionality of the single disc CD? If so, does plugging and unplugging the accessory (mp3 player) toggle the use of the CD off and on?
