Corrosion at under 3 years old

So I pulled the trunk carpet out of my 2005 yesterday to clean up a spill, and under the tailgate weather strip were rust spots all along the ridge that the strip slides onto. I was pretty shocked considering its age, the fact that it has been in central NC since new, and that it is very well maintained ie never any dirt or leaf build up that likes to trap moisture.

I know its only a minor bit of surface rust, and I imagine this would be covered under the 5 year corrosion warranty? Makes you worry where else I should be looking?

Anyone else notice this?, I suggest you take a look at yours, the weatherstrip just pulls away so you can check it in 5 seconds.

Damn, that sucks, they should have used a better paint under there, I guess mine is not going to be good neither.

Looks like a bunch of spots where it was tack welded. Should be easy enough to fix, now that you caught it early. I'd sand off the surface rust and throw some POR-15 on there.

If the rust rusted all the way thru, yes, it would be covered. Read the warranty, it's for rust THROUGH, not surface rust.

ive actually been meaning to look under my weather stripping; my good friend just had some rust work covered under warranty. He has an 04 4dr TRD and above his right rear door he had rust THROUGH.... so they repaired it NO QUESTIONS. Being that i live closer to (ON) the beach im kinda nervous to what could be lurking......

Oh and keylay, ITS HOT HERE and ive spent my entire winter in the ocean and on the beach, Taannnnnnn ;-D If the waves are no good, ive been putting in 10+/- miles on the beach cruiser (some +s)

**so i dont have rust as much as you... although i have a few spots on the tailgate where the locking mechanism is ... i think the cause is that the area holds water and there is no efficient water run off**** i was dissapointed to see that too!

haha I've spent my entire winter on the slopes because I'm 1 hour away from the best skiiing in the world.
