Hey guys, I am new to the forum and have a question I hope you all can help me with. I have a 1991 4Runner with a 3.0 that needs the water pump replaced. I don't have the time, tools, place to work, etc. to do it myself right now. I have purchased the water pump, and a local shop has quoted me $400 to install it. Is it just me or does that sound like a ridiculous price? All opinions welcomed.

In fact that is a very low quote considering what is necessary to replace a water pump on a 3vz-e. Basically you have to tear apart the entire fron of the engine. I believe that we tend to charge around 1k for that job taking into account that we are in Cali. When you do it though you should make sure that they replace the timing belt and the two tensioners well worth the extra bucks.

That sounds kind of extreme but it doesn't surprise me.
If you think that's bad, try getting a $1200 estimate to install a $60 timing chain on a 22RE.
